Customer Reviews

I felt sheepish when I picked this one up.5
The other night I decided to emerge from my cave doing Sudokus, and wandered into the local big box store.Sitting there amongst the books this book jumped up at me.Just what I need, another book of Sudoku puzzles!1001puzzles,the largest number I've seen yet!...enuff!,enuff!,enuff!..just kidding.
I would really suggest this book for someone who has been doing them for some time, mainly because there are so many puzzles; a good mixture of Easy,Medium,Hard and Very Hard. There is some coverage on methods and hints on solving, but very scanty,it doesn't even cover twins or triplets. But unless new at this game, that's not too important. The paper quality is fairly good. The size of the grid is medium at 3"by 3" and there are 2 per page.Since the pages are 6" by 9" the grids could and should have been 4"by4". The book is 1 1/2" thick and doesn't lay flat;so it is awkward to use as you'd have to use one hand all the time to keep it open..and at the same time use a pencil and eraser.(I have tried several types and settled on a mechanical pencil which doesn't need sharpening and a pen type replaceable eraser). The solution to this is to take a razor sharp knife and cut out the pages, and away you go.I wonder why they continue to print all the answers, one knows when they have solved it anyway.Don't aggravate yourself by trying to do them in the book.I ,for one, never look at the answers and doubt if anyone else does.Even in this book at 4 answers per page, they take up 1/3 of the book.I would have preferred another 500 puzzles on those pages instead, all at the same cost to the publishers, the reason being that unlike crosswords which need people to create them;Sukodus are computer generated. That is the reason there is no author to this book, one is only required if background, stories or methods and tips are included.
So why 5 Stars? I thought you'd ask.The price on the back of the book is $15.95 US..actually not bad at all for so many puzzles. However the store was selling it for $7.69 Can.What a deal, the Can price is usually 50% more than the US.When I got home and looked it up on Amazon it is shown as not being released
until March 12 2006 in paperback, which my copy is.I guess what we got here is a Remainder before the release.Does this mean there are PRE First Editions.
Well, there you go, that's what I think of this book of Sukodus.

Lots of Sudoku for the seriously hooked.4
I saved the first 500 or so puzzles for my grown daughter, who is just getting into Sudoku, but have spent weeks working through the other 500 puzzles and still have a couple hundred to go. Lots of puzzles for the money.

best deal for your money5
bought this as a gift for my mom (who loves sudoku) and she can't put it down. at this price, other sudoku books only have a couple hundred puzzles but this book has 1001! can't beat that.
