Must have for Luna fans
Indian Summer is a timeless Luna classic, although rarely heard live. I've seen several Luna shows, and they played Indian Summer only once - stretched it out to about 8 or 9 minutes. Too bad, because next to 23 Minutes in Brussels and Bewitched, it's probably the best live song they do. This EP showcases a nice range of their talents, and even after all these years and two new faces in the band, their core sound hasn't changed much at all.
Summer Anthem
I once read a description of this E.P. as being the perfect collection of make-out songs. And while it is that (and much more) it is a fine document of a band trying to find their style. The "Ride Into the Sun" and "Indain Summer" covers are beyond words, the second half of the C.D. falls apart slightly. "Slide" is a quirky fable about being in love and not knowing the right things to say. No one in rock music today can string a bunch incohernet words together, then make them sound as lovely as Dean Wareham can. Odd and poignant, yet still very meaningful, this is a fine capsule of music for anyone looking to find out the earlier work of one of todays best bands.
We'll come back for Indian Summer
If you like Luna, you should get this, because it has one of their best songs ("Indian Summer"). "Rollercoaster" is also pretty good, and the demo version of "Hey Sister" is neat, though not nearly as powerful as the one on _Lunapark_.
