Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500, Luna and (now)Dean and Britta has written an eminently readable account of the rise and fall of his two excellent but under-noticed bands. His style is fluid and entirely digestible, and he seems to have rubbed elbows with quite a few (80s and 90s) notables. As is likewise the case with his music, this is highly recommended.

The most complete and ONLY book about RT that I've run up against. Nicely done, if, at this point, it does stop fairly early in Thompson's career.

A fascinating look at American folk in the early 60s. Of the four personalities focused on, the males, Dylan and Farina, fare more poorly. Not that this strikes me as a caustic book; I think it's just blunt in its appraisal.

A terrific concept rendered literately, if not precisely. Fizzles a bit at the end, perhaps in keeping with what happened to that bright little zeitgeist that everyone attaches to that decade. Maybe THAT'S the point in fact. But it isn't the most satisfying conclusion.

Joe Boyd crossed paths with most everybody in the sixties, but his book is way more than just an orgy of name-dropping. It evokes the era and tickles the hippy nerve in us all. Maybe much of the culture WAS just fashion, but, for those of us who took away more, we can't help but mourn the passing of a time in which the possibilities seemed limitless.

Entertaining and candid. For all of the awe people hold for Dylan, he doesn't walk on water; nor does he claim to.

Oh so arty. Not bad though.

Won't change your life, but Parker's writing is not without merit. Witty and uniquely conceived.

Deft and beautiful. Get this and read it.

A reference. Not bad, but hard-core Beatle fans will take exception in those instances when the writers assess actual Beatle recordings, because the Beatles have been analyzed to death, and longtime fans have sorted all of this out for themselves.
