Customer Reviews
Great computer for the price, but a couple things are missing.
I really like this computer. It is by far the most affordable laptop with a blu-ray drive. It has a very nice look to it. Although the computer is bluetooth capable it for some reason does not come with a pre-installed bluetooth driver. I called sony tech support and that had no solution for this problem. Also, it doesn't have a built in camera like most laptops do these days. It also has no hdmi output. So you'll need to make sure your hdtv has a vga port if you want to use it as a blu-ray player.
Great deal if you can get one on clearance...
I bought one of these on clearance (just over $500) from Radio Shack, and I really like this computer. The only thing it does not have is a built-in webcam. Otherwise, with Blue-Ray, it is a great deal!
Sony is still #1, probably always will be.
This computer is great, i had a friend tell me they got it at radio shack and i didnt believe them. mainly because they said they got a Sony Vaio on clearance for $549 a blu-ray player build in. So i checked out one store they said if they did have it that it was discontinued and would be impossible to find. Well just so happens the next day i called another store and they had one left! I was like great, even though it was a display it was flawlessly like brand new. I got one stick of extra 2 gig ram to put in it, because it comes with just 2 gigs and they r two 1 gig sticks. Well Radio Shack sells this RAM for 27 dollars. As good as this is the RAM that comes stock is 6400 DDR2, and the cheaper RAM is 5400 DDR2, while not very noticable unless you get 4 gigs you may notice a little slow down by adding just one 2 gig stick, so add two. Other than that this thing is totally silent, typing on it now i cant even tell its running, plus it runs cool. When playing a Blu-ray movie it can run a bit hot but thats to be expected as its not a standard DVD-Burner. The resolution is pretty standard 1280x800, but upscales beautifully when you start your BR movies. The picture looks great, even better than the larger VGN at best buy for almost $1000, with its higher resolution. Not having a camera is not a big deal for me considering i never use it much anyways. I have a large ASUS gaming laptop which is my primary computer and this is the one i tote around the house or when traveling. The Dual-core processor in this is at 2.0ghz which runs very well, don't expect to game or anything on this puppy, but with its blu-ray player and great sound(has better speakers than my bigger laptop) its quite the nice little entertainment notebook. Rely on Sony trust me there products last forever.
