Album Description
Ron Surace
With Tatsu Aoki & Dave Pavkovic
Trio City A New CD Release (S-SSD 0091)
Ron Surace treats the piano with respect, and it responds in kind, issuing lines that lilt and chords that balance almost perfectly at their centers.

Neil Tesser, The Chicago Reader / author, The PLAYBOY Guide to Jazz (Plume)

Pianist/arranger/composer and educator Ron Surace returns to Southport for his third CD release “TRIO CITY.” Over the last century Chicago has been home to many world class trios, from Earl Fatha Hines to Ramsey Lewis. Surace continues in the tradition of these urban chamber giants with his offering of jazz classics and one new composition.

Listening to Surace is like peering into the inner mind of jazz creation. Blues, stride, swing, latin and pop forms interweave into the air with form and amazement. Joining Surace on these 14 sides are veteran bassist and Southport international producer Tatsu Aoki along with another Southport familiar face, drummer-percussionist Dave Pavokvic. The project was recorded at Sparrow Sound Design studios in Chicago by Southport partner Joanie Pallatto (see the feature article on Sparrow Sound in the August/September issue of Absolute Sound on Chicago Indie labels!)

As Southport Records reaches it’s 100th new music release it continues to record, produce and distribute CDs from Chicago to a world market.
