initially sounded sparse and challenging, now one of my favorite hill records
even for an andrew hill record, i initially found it hard to wrap my head around the interaction between the piano and drums in this release. Hill's playing is as magical as ever but i found myself wishing the drummer would just break down and fully support hill with a nice jazzy swing but after a few listens i accepted the drummer's unique accompaniment. not a place to start listening to andrew hill but an indispensable release for anyone who has already come to love his earlier albums.

Very Nice Hill
As a fan of Andrew I was very pleased to see this cd released. Hill's playing is stella as always. Great to hear Chico Hamilton on the drums the two work together very nice . Like previous review if your new to Hill you might want to start with something else. Not for the faint of heart. Anyone who's into cutting edge jazz than this cd is right up your alley. Like Monk Hill takes his place as one of the great invitators of modern jazz.
