Malaby is a highly respected figure in the downtown New York contemporary jazz scene. He is also well known for his versatility, having worked with such groups as Charlie Haden's Liberation Orchestra and the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band. His vivid compositions artfully blend improvisation and composition and this recording is further affirmation of his growing stature as a composer.
