Elim, The Determined Athlete is based on a true story and told according to the pup. Elim, The Determined Athlete, reveals the real reason a four month old Alaska village husky joined champion musher, Jeff King’s team on the Iditarod trail. Uplifting and motivating, the reader learns about setting goals, working hard, proving oneself, and ignoring peer rebuffs. Jeff King assisted the pup in becoming a real athlete — a sled dog, instead of just another basketball wanna-be.

"I was taken with the newspaper article - something I hadn't thought of in a children's book. -- Jane L. Evanson, Literary Agent, Anchorage, Alaska and San Francisco, California
"May I take this to show and tell?" -- Lindsay Heath, age 8, Columbus, North Dakota
"The question/points for discussion section is a thoughtful addition for parents to launch discussions. It reminds that when I read to my grandchildren, I shouldn't just end with, "and so now to bed!" -- Marilyn Barry, Director of Writing Program, Alaska Pacific University; Anchorage, Alaska

A great story that encourages children to do their best.
This story is based on a real dog's experience along the Alaskan Iditarod Trail. The illustrations tell the story in great detail. Children particularly enjoy Elim's facial expressions and actions. It is an inspiring story that every child will enjoy.
Learning your strengths
Our kids love this book and ask for it over and over. They love to see Elim try new things until he finds something he can excel in. They especially love the drawings of Elim trying out new sports. Our family highly recommends this story.
Upbeat From the Get-go!
This adorable book gives little tykes a taste of Alaska--and the determination and spunk that characterizes its citizens. Its lively spirited humor and expressively illustrated pictures teach children early on that it pays to follow your dreams and never give up. "Elim" is good material both for reading to small children--and children learning to read, with helpful educational questions and vocabulary list at the end,
Christy Lowry
