Because he was gone by age 27, any opportunity to hear Gram Parsons in action is worthwhile. This record was recorded in front of a studio audience and broadcast live on WLIR in New York in March of 1973, a mere six months before Parsons's untimely death. Most of the material comes from his two solo albums (now collected on one CD) and his groundbreaking work with the Byrds and Burritos. Still, there are a few noteworthy additions to the canon, namely an urgent reading of Merle Haggard's "California Cottonfields," a roughshod '50s-rock medley, and the relatively obscure sacred tune "Country Baptizing," which was written by North Carolina fiddler Jim Shumate, a onetime member of both Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys and then Flatt & Scruggs's Foggy Mountain Boys. Parsons's touring band, the Fallen Angels, play with fire and looseness, especially Neil Flanz on pedal steel, and, of course, the wonderful Emmylou Harris harmonizes ever so passionately with the lead Fallen Angel. --Marc Greilsamer

Give Me More Gram
Such a short life for Gram but so much great music. This live album capturing a Long Island NY radio broadcast is another reminder of how strong his legacy is.
A Good Bit of Gram Live
This CD is pretty good and its a nice introduction to Gram Parsons live. Of course- it includes Emmylou Harris and it gives you the feeling like youre peeking into his world. Nice to have if youre curious about his live stuff. Nice to have if youre a die-hard Gram fan without this in your collection. For the BEST compilation of Gram Parsons work check out " Sacred Hearts and Fallen angels- the Gram Parsons Anthology". God Bless you Gram!
Textbook country rock
Essential CD! Some of the reviews have mildly complained about quality and lack of perfection. As one who cut his teeth on country in rough and tumble honky tonk bars I must say these "flaws" make it more accessible to my ear, more authentic. This cd is crakling with energy. I love the solos on "6 Day On The Road". Textbook country rock. This aint no watered down slickly produced Eagles or latter day Emmilou. This is a document of a working band on the road tearing it up just the genre demands! Look elsewhere for perfection look here to ROCK!
W!
