If Nevermind's sound is familiar now, it's only because thousands of rock records that followed it were trying very hard to cop its style. It tears out of the speakers like a cannonball, from the punk-turbo-charged riff of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" onward, magnifying and distilling the wounded rage of 15 years of the rock underground into a single impassioned roar. Few albums have occupied the cultural consciousness like this one; of its 12 songs, roughly 10 are now standards. The record's historical weight can make it hard to hear now with fresh ears, but the monumental urgency of Kurt Cobain's screams is still shocking. --Douglas Wolk

Customer Reviews

Why isn't there any rapping or lyrics that talk about rims and girls rubbing their booty on you in the club?1
After listening to my 50 Cent cd... I was looking for some rock to add to my collection. And since i LOVE grunge bands like Nickelback, Creed, and GodSmack.. I thought I'd check out this 'so called' grunge band NIRVANA. I couldn't believe my ears! The singer sounds like hes trying to sound like Puddle of Mud and Nickelback. And the lyrics are so terrible! Why aren't there any DJS? or lyrics about drinking vodka in the club with half naked women?

Avoid poser bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam...and stick with REAL GRUNGE like Creed and GodSmack.. and if you want lyrics and emotion listen to 50 Cent or Lil Wayne.

Number One Forever!5
This is the best album ever! Nirvana's finest...I grew up on this in the 90's and i'm 27 now and still play this album a lot. If i need a fix, i just pop in the cd and play Track 1...you all know it..."Smells Like Teen Spirit".

This album is timeless. Which song isn't good? None. If you into the 90's rock era with the likes of Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden etc...then you will love this...and if you weren't...you'd still love it.

This isn't music!1
Trust me, my mom has this CD at home and it makes me want to die. Nirvana is the worst band ever. And who wants a baby swimming around in the ocean NAKED trying to catch a dollar on a fishing line? Unfortunately, Nirvana. Guess what this CD smells like. It's not teen spirit. It's not Nirvana (if you have listened to Weird Al, you will get that joke). It smells like horrible, yucky, grunge music. Do NOT waste your money on this crud!
