Album was released in April 1969 - NOT 1968!
Please Note that this Album was issued by Capitol Records in early April 1969. It did not come out in 1968 as others have eluded! (The 45rpm SINGLE of "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" was issued by Capitol in late Sept. 1968.)

Ultimately, an average album with some great tunes
I wish to prevent folks from shelling out huge bucks for this out-of-print album because they are tempted by the ludicrous claim of "masterpiece" or "best album" by some of the customer reviewers. This album is, despite the iconic title track, an average album. Half the tunes are strong and about 1/2 are either filler or the unsuccessful experiments of a young artist exploring his musical terrain for strengths. The experimental, more psychedelic stuff is interesting because it's a departure from Seger's trademark sound. When this album is back in print, I think many Seger fans will be disapppointed if they go in expecting a master work. Rather, you must see this album as a decent part of the catalog but ultimately the product of an artist still undergoing a maturation process. It is the lack of availability and, of course, the album title (named for one of Seger's best known tracks) that gives this 3-star album a 5-star feel. I don't have time for more detail but let me recommend the review by "running man," who hits the nail on the head with regards to particular songs.

Unfortunate Son
I suppose there are many reasons that older albums are not being reproduced and I'm not going to speculate as to why this one isn't but this old headbanger from the sixties really enjoyed gettin down with the old vinyl version. A party fave once upon a time, the whole album had an aura of it's own, like Santana, Jeff Beck, et al. My copy succumbed to being handled by too many late night trippers that just couldn't get enough of it. This album really rocks with a great mix of energy and soul and in these troubled times I have this great longing for another jolt of 'two plus two is on my mind'... Can't help but think this song would resonate with a whole new generation of young folks looking for answers to their own questions. I just want to add my voice to another reviewer who doesn't want to shell out 55 or 350 sheckels for a great piece of rock and roll history that can stand on it's own two feet with straight ahead rock and still has social relevance, unlike a lot of the fluff that's being marketed today. I would definitely rate it five stars if it was available to we the people! C'mon Bob, we've got the gamblin in Deetroit now, bring us back some ramblin!
