Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Filmed at MTV's Times Square studio, "MTV Unplugged: KORN" features acoustic performances of the band's greatest hits, along with several new songs exclusive to their "Unplugged" performance. KORN is also joined by The Cure and Amy Lee of Evanescence for this one time only performance.

Korn has made a career out of playing loud, angry rock & roll––loud and angry enough that placing the band in the unplugged setting has, until now, seemed unthinkable. But the risk has more or less paid off. Tracks such as "Blind" and "Hollow Life" work best in this new context––each filled with a sense of drama but not melodrama, their essential emotional weight is given new heft by opting for intense calm rather than an epic––and overwrought––musical maelstrom. Others, such as "Twisted Transistor" teeter on self-parody; a guest turn from Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee for "Freak on a Leash" is inspired, one from the Cure for "Make Me Bad/In Between Days" doesn't quite live up to its promise on paper. But the band's reading of Radiohead's "Creep" is heartfelt and true, making this unplugged endeavor worthwhile and truly entertaining.--Jedd Beaudoin

Laugh Out Loud1
truth be told, when I read that Korn would be doing an unplugged album I laughed out loud in the quiet library I was sitting in. I thought it was a god awful idea. time passed. one day while listening to the radio I heard the unplugged freak on a leach with Amy Lee. I was actually surprised I didn't totally hate it. I didn't think it was that good but it was at least exceeding my expectations. then when the album came out I made the mistake of listening to a copy from the library. They took Blind, an incredibly powerful song great for live shows and took a steaming dump on it. they should have known that a song such as this could not possibly benefit from being played acoustically, it's a loud and proud song by nature. now, I would be able to forgive them for this album if they didn't seem so convinced that what they were doing was a good idea. what I mean is, any artist can make a mistake such as releasing an album thats over ambitious and indulgent and not get a positive reaction. this is not the case with this album because no matter what the band claims, this album is not ambitious at all. in fact, it sounds like a totally lazy effort. it's like they all got together and said "hey guys, lets make an unplugged album! it'll make us relevant on MTV again and it'll prove were a 'serious' band". please, korn have never been a serious band and they never will be. they should really just stick to what their best at which is helping teenagers let out their aggression.

and one more thing, words cannot describe how awful the cover of creep on here is. why does Jonathan think he can sing like Thom Yorke? HE CAN'T!!!

Don't listen to the hate. 5
People are shredding this so much I felt I had to step in with my first Amazon review to give a realistic two cents. From what I have read, there are two types of people cutting on this performance. 1) Metal obsessed meatheads that would not know a lick of good music if it slapped them in the face. 2) People that shred any new metal because it is not Death, Speed or Old School metal.

I have been a Korn fan for years. Their material has worn quite thin ever since "Follow The Leader." and has done so in a progressively worsening fashion. However, this offering is wonderful. Jon Davis and company have put together a true "music" piece, the likes of which those meatheads I mentioned earlier could never appreciate, since it isn't played at 100 miles per hour and full of growls and screams. Korn and their backup crew put such an interesting and truly original twist on their music in "unplugged," that I would call it the best one MTV has done since Alice In Chains performance. "Blind," "Freak On a Leash," "Falling Away From Me," "Got the Life," and "Coming Undone," (a song I hate the studio version of) are standouts, and the rest of them are almost equally as moving and unique. Tracks are peppered with seemingly other-worldly instruments like glass harmonicas and Japanese war-drums. "Hollow Life," in my opinion is the only track on this record that truly suffers, and they should have stayed away from Radiohead's "Creep." Does not translate well.

If you are a real music fan, and like harder music in general, you likely have loved this band at one time or another. Many people out there (and reviewing here) hate Korn because they hate anything they deem as "trendy." Buy this......period. Even with the edited swearing, which are very few, this is truly a musical piece to behold, regardless of what the "METAL ROOLZ!!!!" fools have to say.
