![]() | Animal Years by Josh Ritter
Buy used from: $9.35 Not only the best album of this year, but one of the best albums I've heard this decade. The songs are lush and rich. Josh Ritter courts you gently at first, then pulls you in for a long slow dance. The music is masterful, and the lyrics are like a painter's vision inviting you into his world. Simply gorgeous.

![]() | Mr. Lemons by Glen Phillips
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $3.93 This album is stripped down and more like Glen Phillips' live shows. This album is beautiful and powerful.

![]() | Stay Under the Stars by Teitur
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.99 A haunting sophomore disc from this under-appreciated artist from the Faroe Islands. His music is achingly lovely.
|
![]() | Fox Confessor Brings the Flood by Neko Case
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.80 Neko Case has a uniquely anachronistic sound. This album sounds like you might have found it under your basement stairs, and dusted it off to play it on your analog record player. Between Case's voice and her brutal lyrics, this is a definite must have.

![]() | Time Without Consequence by Alexi Murdoch

|
![]() | Tangerine by David Mead
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $3.10 A catchy pop record with brains.
|
![]() | 9th Ward Pickin' Parlor by Shawn Mullins
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $4.69 A more bluesy record reflecting the sounds of the 9th Ward of New Orleans, where the album was recorded.
|
![]() | The Believer by Rhett Miller
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $2.25 A fun solo offering from the Old 97's frontman.
|
![]() | The Dust of Retreat by Margot & the Nuclear So and So's
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $5.00 Not singer-songwriters, but one of the most fun albums of 2006.
|
![]() | 9 by Damien Rice
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.39 Maybe not as strong as "O", but still a fine album. "Dogs" is one of my favorite songs of the year.
|
![]() | Taking the Long Way by Dixie Chicks
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.10 I don't even like country music, and I've never listened to the Dixie Chicks before this cd. But this cd is great. Heartfelt and honest.
