The Asch Recordings, Vol. 1-4The Asch Recordings, Vol. 1-4 by Woody Guthrie
Buy new: $44.98 / Used from: $36.99
Everybody should listen to Woody Guthrie. He is one of the most important people to ever pick up a guitar. Without Guthrie there would be no Dylan.

Pete Seeger is also a must if you have any interest in folk music.
The Legend of Johnny CashThe Legend of Johnny Cash by Johnny Cash

Almost anything by Johnny Cash is great, but I don't think I need to explain Johnny Cash to anyone. If you are some how unfamiliuar with his work then you better hury up and catch up to the rest of us.
The Freewheelin' Bob DylanThe Freewheelin' Bob Dylan by Bob Dylan
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $6.05
Bob Dylan is someone who everybody knows, but it seems like a lot of people I talk don't know more than four or five of his songs which is really sad because he has so many good ones. This is the best of his old folkie stuff, but you should also check his other stuff because it gets a lot more rocking. Great music.
After the Gold RushAfter the Gold Rush by Neil Young
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.79
Another musical genius. He goes from light acustic songs to heavily distorted guitars doing thing that I can't explain.
Rubber SoulRubber Soul by The Beatles

This is a no brainer. Everything they did is great.

They're no beatles, but who is. Everybody should listen to the Stones.
The Who Sell OutThe Who Sell Out by The Who
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.70
The Who is both over and underated by a lot of people. There's a lot more to them than there Who's Next album. Its a great album, but ther old stuff is, too. Some really fun songs.
Face to FaceFace to Face by The Kinks
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $6.00
The early Kinks songs sound like punk in the 1960's, but their best stuff came after that.
The Velvet Underground & NicoThe Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground

Everyone owes it to themselves to at least listen to the Velvet Underground at some poit in there life. It may take a couple listen to digest, but once it does boy is it a treat.

These guys were punk before there was such a thing. This came out the same year that Woodstock took place...
All the Young DudesAll the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.65
One of the few early 70's band worth listening to. This and Mott are both a lot fun.
Hunky DoryHunky Dory by David Bowie
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.50
Another artist that everyone know, but really doesn't know. This is Bowie's first classic.
Born to RunBorn to Run by Bruce Springsteen
Buy new: $8.97 / Used from: $3.15
The title track blows me away every time I listen to it. If that was the only good song on the whole album it would still be worth your money, but fortunatly the rest is awsome too!
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Greatest HitsTom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Buy used from: $1.00
Tom Petty is one of the best "classic rock" artist ever. You might find you know a lot more of his song then you were aware of.
RamonesRamones by The Ramones
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $4.09
The first punk album ever recorded. Don't be turned away if you think you're not a fan of punk rock, because this is pretty much pop music played really fast. They even cover Let's Dance!
My Aim Is True (With Bonus Disc)My Aim Is True (With Bonus Disc) by Elvis Costello
Buy used from: $6.53
Don't let his appearance fool you Elvis Costello can rock. He is also writes a lot of cool lyrics. This is not to be missed.
London CallingLondon Calling by The Clash
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $4.01
This might be the best Album ever made. The clash ditched most of their punk sound to explore different styles. every song is so differnt yet it all works so well together.
Rain DogsRain Dogs by Tom Waits
Buy new: $8.97 / Used from: $3.25
If you haven't hear Tom Waits do it now! The man starts out as a lounge singer in the early 70's and ends up makin some of the weirdest and greatest music ever in the mid 80's. So good.
CloserCloser by Joy Division
Buy used from: $7.75
If dark music is you're thing then this is your band. Joy Division's music is great for listening to in the dark on a rainy day.
If I Should Fall from Grace with GodIf I Should Fall from Grace with God by The Pogues
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $7.48
Invented Irish rock music which strangely enough has become it's own genre. A lot great tunes for drinking and fighting and actually a lot nice soft songs. One of my favorite albums ever.
PsychocandyPsychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain
Buy used from: $6.48
This one may take a few listens. At first listen it seems like it's just a lot noise, but you discover what's underneath and you are really glad you did. Songs like Just Like Honey is actually a pretty song and the distorted guitars sort of add to that some how.
DoolittleDoolittle by Pixies
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.99
Not the prettiest band to look at, but could they make great songs. They wrote some really heavy songs like Tame and some awsome pop songs like Here Comes Your Man, on the same album! Kim Deal also has one of the sexiest voices ever.
In UteroIn Utero by Nirvana
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.47
Who doesn't like Nirvan? If you say you don't you're lying.
Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & ReduxeSlanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe by Pavement
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $9.46
Considered to be the first indie band. You call them what ever you want as long as you listen to them. They are possibly the best band out of the 90's.
AnodyneAnodyne by Uncle Tupelo
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.78
The first "alt-country" band. Punk mixed with southern and folk music. It works better then you might think. Any band that covers The Stooges, The Soft Boys, CCR, and The Carter Family is worth checking out.
TraceTrace by Son Volt
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.04
Jay Farrar, one of the members of Uncle Tupelo left to make this. One of the best county rock albums ever recorder. The rest of Son Volts albums don't even coming close to touching this one.
Yankee Hotel FoxtrotYankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $4.48
After Jay Farrar left Uncle Tupelo to form Son Volt Jeff Tweedy was left with the left over members and with them he formed Wilco. By the time they made Yankee Hotel Foxtrot they had pretty much moved from county to pop. This is absolutey amazing.
