![]() | Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea by Gary Kinder
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $0.01 If you haven't read this one, do yourself a favor and read it. A friend loaned me a copy. At around 4:00 PM, I thought I'd try a chapter. Read continuously until 4:00 AM, went to sleep, then finished it the next day. What more do I need to say? Brilliantly written, fantastic story.

![]() | Touching the Void (Macmillan Reader)
Buy used from: $8.59 Simpson's first book and his best. I defy you to stop reading it once you begin. The closest I'll ever want to come to being a mountain climber, but after reading this book, I could swear I was there!

![]() | Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $0.99 OK, everyone has probably read this--but this is another that is "total immersion" reading and difficult to put down. I still remember being on top of Everest, if only alongside Krakauer for the day and a half I read it. Love the graduated elevations for each chapter....

![]() | The Last Days of the Incas by Kim MacQuarrie
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $9.78 An absolutely brilliant book and perhaps an even more amazing story than those above. Travel down the Andes alongside Pizarro and his 168 conquistadors, meet Inca emperors up close and personal, walk into rooms literally filled with gold. One of the most amazing stories to occur on the American continent and pretty much impossible to put down. A great readÂ….
