Despite Our DifferencesDespite Our Differences by Indigo Girls
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $6.76
A beautiful folk rock pop album by the Indigo Girls. Taking a break (slightly) from some of their angrier songs, the Indigo Girls put out a great album about life, love, and the pursuit of Rock&Roll (Rock & Roll Heaven's Gate featuressinger Pink, who featured the girls on track Dear Mr. President).
Real LifeReal Life by RJ Helton
Buy used from: $0.01
The "Inspirational" CD release by Season 1 American Idol alum. His soft smooth voice offers up heaps of R&B, latin, soul, gospel, and pop in this album.
Princess PPrincess P by Paris Bennett
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $0.39
Debut album from American Idol alum, Paris Bennett! She placed fifth in season five, ahead of country stars Bucky Covington and Kellie Pickley and gospel star Mandisa. The CD contains a track at the end featuring her mother, Jamecia, and famous grandmother, Ann Nesby, both from the ensemble Sounds of Blackness.
ANASTACIAANASTACIA by Anastacia
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $1.15
Last full-new release from American pop singer Anastacia, known mostly through Europe. Anastacia (who is currently working on a 2008 release and recently released two clothing lines through s.Oliver) wrote and recorded this album while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for breast cancer in late 2003, early 2004.
Carnival RideCarnival Ride by Carrie Underwood
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.56
This season 4 American Idol winner's second studio release is by far better than the first (and I loved the first one).
I StandI Stand by Idina Menzel
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $2.73
First major release Pop album from Tony-award winning actress, Idina Menzel, who has also starred in such movies as Ask The Dust (with Colin Farrel and Selma Hayek) and Enchanted (with Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey).
Beautiful Intentions [UK CD]Beautiful Intentions [UK CD] by Melanie C
Buy new: $22.99 / Used from: $13.28
Now, whichever version of this album you choose to purchase, or purchase for download (where available), this is my favorite by famed Sporty Spice, Melanie C. This is her third of four albums and it is the most rock-inspired with the most to say.
StrippedStripped by Christina Aguilera
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.75
Aguilera's first release in which she was self-involved. She worked with a lot of writers and a few producers, most notably Linda Davis (of Four Non-Blondes fame). There are a lot of great tracks on this CD that were not released as singles including (but not limited to): the latin-inspired Infatuation, the 80's rock Make Over, and the biographical I'm OK.
HomeHome by Dixie Chicks
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $0.94
My personal favorite from famed country artists, the Dixie Chicks (probably more well-known for their comment against Bush in a British Concert a few years back, then being banned from all country stations across the nation). This album is pure acoustic, recorded with them and a band in a studio.
Backwoods BarbieBackwoods Barbie
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $6.79
I am not the biggest Dolly fan, but the CD, released in February of 08, is by far my favorite release of hers yet. The title track (Backwoods Barbie) is light-hearted poke at herself, while still standing up for the fact that backwoods barbies do indeed have feelings, too. And her first single "Better Get To Living" is an uplifting, fun song about... well... you get it.
FutureSex / LoveSoundsFutureSex / LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.00
I am also not a huge Justin fan... but this CD (as well as his many appearances on television shows like SNL and Ellen) shows that he is a very talented writer and musician (as well as a good comedian).
LifeLife by Ricky Martin
Buy used from: $0.01
While not the best album in the world (there are some slow, uninteresting parts) it is his best (and least publicized) English album. There are some great R&B and Hip Hop tracks, yes that's right. Including one featuring Fat Joe and Amerie, and another featuring (prepare yourself) Daddy Yankee!
