FBI Special Agent Dana Scully is assigned to "debunk" the paranormal investigations of fellow agent "Spooky" Fox Mulder as his partner on the X-files. However, after experiencing more than her share of unexplained phenomena, Scully develops a respect for Mulder, who, at age 12, believed he witnessed his younger sister's abduction by aliens.

The 3rd season episode of this David E. Kelley series, "Away in the Manger" (aired 12/16/94) was originally intended to be a crossover with the X-Files 2nd season episode "Red Museum," but CBS didn't want to promote a show on the Fox network. Characters and events from "Red Museum" are still mentioned in "'Manger," however.

In "Eek! Space 9" (aired 11/11/95), a 4th season episode of Savage Steve Holland's cult cartoon classic (still not available on home video in any format), Anderson and Duchovny voiced animated versions of Mulder and Scully.

Another Chris Carter creation, "Millennium," premiered during the X-Files 4th season. The two series existed in the same "universe," as evidenced in two crossovers, one in "Millenium's" 2nd season and the other in the X-Files 7th season.

Released in the summer of 1998, the first X-Files feature film was actually filmed before the series' 5th season.

Canceled after its 3rd season and before its titular event, Frank Black (Lance Henriksen) made an encore appearance in the X-Files 7th season episode "Millennium" (aired 11/28/99), in which he was able to watch the Ball drop in Times Square (on TV) on New Year's Eve 2000.
