Product Description

Swan Boat Souvenir is a story of abduction and murder, a story of twin souls and dreams. The book is unique in its approach to the painful subject of a child's kidnapping. Readers will explore the Boston Public Garden, the back roads of Connecticut and the Pacific Coast highway as they travel with one soul on its incredible journey. The unsolved 1975 disappearance, in Boston, of a six-year-old boy, changes the lives of families and strangers forever. Sixteen years after Shamus Thomas Carney's abduction a plane lands at Logan Airport with a man named Angus T. Roarke on board. He is a businessman impatient to be done with a family celebration, a man who is about to become an unwitting player in a lost child's rebirth. Angus T. Roarke will spend one night at the exclusive Charles River Plaza Hotel over looking the Boston Public Garden. The consequences of his actions, on an October evening in 1991, sets off a seven-year chain of events which will lead a handful of characters through a labyrinth of paradox. The web of fate will be flung across their lives, drawing them all into a blind bargain with destiny.

Customer Reviews

This woman is authentic...5
This Linda Merlino really knows how to write! Hard to believe this is just her first published novel. This woman is authentic. She writes with such an eye and ear for locale that the reader will come to know the Boston area as well as she does. And she has insight into her characters; she understands them and their innner lives as though she's lived in their skins. To say any more would deprive the reader of the pleasure of a well-plotted novel. Can't wait for her next one.

The Soul of the Child5
Ms. Merlino is a skillful writer. She tells an excellently plotted, spiritual mystery, which kept me guessing, up to the end.

Each character represents a strain of belief, all at times, symbolic of the many moral choices we face, even if we do not hold a particular creed.

Graham Greene's "The End of the Affair" was a story with similar rough edges. Ms Merlino's conclusions challange traditional theology, but in these 'hard tmes', the message presented here is bold and positive. If you care about the souls of children, and their destination, this is the read for you.

Swan Boat Souvenir by Linda Merlino5
A beautifuly wriiten book, full of twists and turns that keep you turning the pages. Moving and ultimately hopeful.
