Rhyme & Reason
Certainly can be used to educate the masses on the evolution of hip-hop. I'm saddened to see what it's become while corporations have killed the notion of reporting the issues we see in the streets and most/all people can relate to. Could have incorporated the role of women and not just used as eye-candy. When it comes to rappin about mothers, it's all good yet they can't say the same about other women on the streets. Such hypocrisy.
even for the white man
I had to watch a movie re: a culture other than your own for a class in graduate school a number of years ago. I chose to watch this movie during what was probably its only week in theatres. I was pleasantly surprised how informative it was and honestly went into the history of hip hop to explain how it affects gangs, east coast v. west coast, etc. This really is not just for blacks and those who think they are just going to watch a concert or hear a bunch of songs will be disappointed. From my point, I was pleased. I remember it this many years later.
Still one of the best hip-hop documentaries
This one helped me get into poplocking cuz it has some great poplock footage in it. From here I got How To Do The Robot - Breakdance Instructional DVD and Top 20 Breakdance Moves on amazon and I learned how to dance like they do in this movie.
Great underrated documentary that helped inspire me to learn poplocking.
