This new edition covers the latest version of Primavera Project Planner and features the exclusive use of this software as its vehicle for application. The clear and progressive presentation of the material allows students to build upon successes while working through the various chapters.
Key features of this edition:

- Chronology of the subject matter facilitates logical skill development both in scheduling and in Primavera.
- Practical use of graphics and step-by-step procedures.

The intent of Construction Scheduling with Primavera Project Planner is to assist the user in developing a proficiency in construction planning and a working knowledge of Primavera Project Planner. In order for the reader to get the most out of this book, he or she should have an understanding of how construction projects are estimated and how they are assembled, and have a basic understanding of the Windows operating system. The chapter on estimating is included to develop terminology and to show the relationship between the estimate and the comprehensive construction plan. It is essential that the information developed for the estimate be presented in a fashion that can be easily used during the actual construction process.
This book is divided into three distinct sections. The first section addresses the development and manual calculations of the construction schedule. The middle section is an introduction to Primavera Project Planner. The final section addresses project controls and how Primavera Project Planner can be used to enhance decision making. This book is intended to impart a practical hands-on perspective to the software reference manuals. After completing this book, the reader should have developed a proficiency in Primavera Project Planner and in construction project controls. Furthermore, the user should be able to customize Primavera Project Planner as necessary so as to effectively gauge project performance.
The suggested exercises at the end of each chapter provide practical applications. These exercises are cumulative, and upon completion of all these exercises, the user will have gone through a complete project simulation. This simulation will include both planning the project and monitoring the project through actual construction. The chapter discussion together with the simulation will enable users of this text to develop the skills needed to effectively manage construction projects.
Customer Reviews
A 'must have' book!
I fully recommend this book for any new user of P3. I considered it as a "must have" title.
Not so hot
This book and the reviews I had read about it made it sound like a stand-alone guide to Project Planner. I found it to be inconsistent in its presentation, ranging anywhere from speaking to a infant in the computer world to assuming I already knew what I was doing. The detail in it's instruction was just not what it appeared to be, and that hurt my overall rating of the book. If you have the book right next to you and you've already gone through the tutorial, then you've got a fighting chance to get through this book without wasting your money or your time.
Excellent!
This book provides an overview of the scheduling process first. Then, the author starts to tie P3 into puzzle. The end result is that you have resource that you can read from start to finish, and also use it as a reference once you have finished reading the book. The author also touches on many of the advanced capabilities of P3. I am somewhat biased toward this book. The author is the one who actually taught me how to use P3 while developing this book. He teaches a class on scheduling at Texas A&M University. I am currently recommending my coworkers who are involved in scheduling to read this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone involved in scheduling with P3 or Suretrak. We have had great success with teaching our project managers how to use P3 using this book. The first part of the book is usefull for project managers who are not involved in P3 "hands-on", but who are involved in projects that use P3. It helps the project managers understand the scheduling process. It also helps the project scheduler because the project manager is providing better feedback.
