This actually is one of my all-time favorite flicks. Brad Pitt is so believable, the scenery is gorgeous, and the story truly touches my heart each time. I've read the short story on which it is based (and it's good), but I think the movie improved upon it.

I really am not sure what it is, but watching the evolution of "The Song" intrigues me every time. Some of the other tunes on the soundtrack are also entertaining. And yes, it's really easy to watch Liv Tyler and Charlize Theron.
The Godfather DVD Collection (The Godfather/ The Godfather - Part II/ The Godfather - Part III)The Godfather DVD Collection (The Godfather/ The Godfather - Part II/ The Godfather - Part III)

For some reason, I am fascinated by mob stories. Nearly every scene with Al Pacino is worth watching. I really like the flashback story of how Vito Corleone got his start and the scenes in Italy. I will watch I and II all the time, pause to watch III now and then.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Two-Disc Special Edition)Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Two-Disc Special Edition)

I'm showing my weird side here, I know. My wife thinks the story is bogus, what with the brothers kidnapping the women with lust afoot. I used to watch this with my mom whenever it was on. The dance scenes with all the brothers are entertaining. And I love Howard Keel and Jane Powell's voices.
A Night at the OperaA Night at the Opera
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $6.79
I have loved the Marx Brothers since I was about 9 or 10 years old and saw them on late-night weekend TV. I could list almost every one of their films here, but this one is special. The scene with Groucho and Chico agreeing on a contract while using a knocked-out guy as a foot rail is one of my fave in all of movie history.
The Natural (Director's Cut)The Natural (Director's Cut)

So many worthy sports flicks. I love the short stories of Bernard Malamud, and this movie is based on one of his few novels. Something about this period in baseball history always has appealed to me. And I want my grandkids to call me "Pops" because that was the name of Wilford Brimley's character.
Gone with the Wind (Four-Disc Collector's Edition) 1939Gone with the Wind (Four-Disc Collector's Edition) 1939

Civil War history is my favorite period about which to learn and read. Yes, "Glory" is an outstanding film as well. But something about Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable make me stop and watch every single time.
Field of Dreams (Widescreen Two-Disc Anniversary Edition)Field of Dreams (Widescreen Two-Disc Anniversary Edition)

Someone who knew me very well made a gift to me of the book "Shoeless Joe" shortly after it was published. Long before anyone thought of this move and of the J.D. Salinger novel character becoming the Terrence Mann movie character, I had memorized the plot by reading it three times. And the movie works just as well.
Jeremiah JohnsonJeremiah Johnson

You might sense a Robert Redford thread here (and there still is one more remaining). But while women might like to look at him on the screen, he makes terrific guy movies. Funny, moving, beautiful -- very entertaining.
Young FrankensteinYoung Frankenstein
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $3.74
I might spark an argument here, but I think the two best things Mel Brooks ever did are "The 2000-Year-Old Man" on comedy albums/radio programs and this film. "Zee roll in zee hay, zee roll in zee hay ... "
On the Waterfront (Special Edition)On the Waterfront (Special Edition)
Buy new: $14.49 / Used from: $9.99
Terrific story. But the scene with Brando and Steiger in the backseat of the cab is perhaps my favorite in movie history.
CleopatraCleopatra
Buy new: $14.49 / Used from: $13.89
Liz Taylor was hot. Liz Taylor was hot. Liz Taylor was hot. You just don't see epic stories like this one on the big (or little) screen any more. ... Did I mention that I enjoyed watching Liz Taylor act in this movie?
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Newman and Redford. Great stuff.
Braveheart (Special Collector's Edition)Braveheart (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $7.34
A reminder that Mel Gibson is pretty darn good. And I like a story that puts a spotlight on periods of history about which I'm not well versed.
Gangs of New York (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Gangs of New York (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $1.42
Again, a movie that made me seek out some history books on the subject of New York City. Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio were good. Daniel Day-Lewis was excellent.
12 Angry Men12 Angry Men

An awesome ensemble cast, but Henry Fonda shows how really good acting can be.
It's a Wonderful Life (60th Anniversary Edition)It's a Wonderful Life (60th Anniversary Edition)

Not just a Christmas movie, it's awesome all year long.
Singin' in the Rain (Two-Disc Special Edition)Singin' in the Rain (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $8.50
The dancing, the singin', the underrated humor in the story line ... good stuff. Even though Gene Kelly's hoofin' during the title song is excellent, I like Donald O'Connor's "Make 'Em Laugh" and O'Connor/Kelly in "Moses" more.
Tombstone - The Director's Cut (Vista Series)Tombstone - The Director's Cut (Vista Series)

I know there might be better westerns. This one is so entertaining, though -- in part because Val Kilmer is so good as Doc Holliday.
The Great White HopeThe Great White Hope
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $5.84
You might not be familiar with the story of Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight boxing champ. This biopic starring James Earl Jones and Jane Alexander will make you want to learn more.
