Ignore the Last Review, This One's a Winner!
This compilation offers a splendid take on the 80's underground dance scene. If you're looking for mainstream, radio hits, these tracks may not appeal to you. At the Paradise Garage, Better Days, The Clubhouse,Catacombs, and other urban after hours clubs on the East Coast, these songs were real crowd pleasers and garner "classic" status today. The album is worth it's price simply for having the rare, yet highly popular and danceable "You're Too Late" by Fantasy. Also, Sinnamon's "Thanks to You" is still influencing a lot of the electronica and techno cuts that come out today with its computer generated synth line and dubbed out vocals. Lastly, Everyone Here Must Party" and "Please Don't Go" are peak hour party pumpers. If you feel like dancing and love the underground, Mid-Atlantic States, after hours, urban, 80's sound, this one is definitely a winner!
Takes me back to yesterday
Living in OHIO the songs on this compilation are known more by beat, melodies, and the lyrics. You may not the know the artists though except for 60/70's soul siren Barbara Mason whose cult favorite "Another Man" is featured here. The song is much sampled most recently on Biggie Smalls 1997 "Another" on his "LIFE AFTER DEATH" release.
On friday nights the radio stations would feature different djs playing the mix records to get you ready to go out and party! "Thanks to you" by Sinnamon and "You aint really down" by Status IV are two that would be familiar to some no matter what coast you are living on. Fantays's gospel tinged post disco era "You're too late" gets the toes tapping and fingers snapping. And how can one forget Shades of Love's "Keep in touch (Body to Body) which is a underground Ballroom favorite.
With this release you cant go wrong....The ultimate club mix of 'You aint really down" would have been more desired but this is essential 80's dance, a mix between disco and freestyle it will leave you longing for the days of yesteryear when the djs determined what was hot and a hit.
Excellent Compilation, First Reviewer obviously in a Cave!
Just another testament that 80's L.A. club life could not hold a candle to NY or Miami!! These songs would definitely be obscure on the West Coast (except maybe gay bars or in SF) but they were staple on the East Coast.
