Customer Reviews
Disappointed
Having very carefully chosen this CD based on my own memory of the tunes, the music sampler available and, most importantly, comments from other reviewers, it transpires that only 3/20 tracks are more than 4 minutes long. Majority of the tracks are between 3-4 minutes long. Not what I would term as 'Super Rare Disco' at all. Rare Disco is surely the full length 12 inch mixes that would have been played in the clubs, as opposed to radio edits!!! Yes, I realised there were 20 tracks in total on this CD...but not one of the previous reviwers stated all 20 tracks were on just ONE CD, nor the fact that majority of the tracks were radio edits. Shame, as majority of the tracks themselves are very good. Disappointed.
Super CD for True Disco Lovers
With so many compilations on the market and most just repeating the same tracks by Donna Summer, Village People and Gloria Gaynor, this CD is long overdue. For those of us old enough to remember those hot disco nights, these were the songs that the dj's were playing between the AM radio hit - and they set the pace in a club. Want to learn how to mix '70s disco? Try this. If you can you're a master. With most tracks recorded in the days before beat boxes, Roland drum machines, click tracks and all the electronic stuff used today, this was just great music, flaws and all. This and Volume 2 are winners. Let's hope the label finds enough material for a couple of more volumes.
Great "Obscure" Disco
I am very happy with this compilation. To me this is better than the commercial compilations that have the overplayed (but still great) classic disco songs. I'm always looking for something that would take me back to the songs that were a hit at the time, but somehow fade slightly from the mainstream as time goes on.
"Mainline" comes to mind. You won't find that on every classic disco compilation. That's what makes it great.
"Ten Percent" - the first commercial 12" record. GREAT!
I am a DJ, but purchased this CD more for listening. But it is great to take to the club and spin a few times for the party goers.
I also appreciate the fact that there are 20 songs on this CD. Making for a large compilation compared to some other CD's that offer only 12 or 13 tracks.
If you are a disco fan, I recommend this CD to you.
