Slave's Slide
First off, the title is a little misleading since half of the CD is from Steve Arrington's solo career. They could have easily included more of Slave's MONSTER funk cuts such as Baby Sinister, Sizzlin' Hot and more. Not to mention some of the Funk cuts that ARE included are edited versions. All of this omission and editing just for more Steve Arrington solo work? Not a good move. I agree with other reviewers that Slave is a greatly underrated 70's funk band. This collection could have done much to remedy that, but it didn't. On the other hand, since most of Slave's output is out of print, this is the best collection available, so it is still recommended, just not as enthusiastically as it COULD have been,
Good best of album
When I first heard the bass line on Slide I was hooked! I have most of their albums, Snapshot being the last. After that they went downhill in my opinion. This album includes most of my favorites, but it is missing "the way you love is heaven" from the concept album, "shine" from Just a touch of love, and "starting over". I wish that would release "The Concept" or 'Just a touch of love" on CD -- over all these were the most cohesive albums, not to mention some amazing musicianship, esp. the bass on " shine" amazing stuff. To this day no one has matched that funky bass vibe that Mark Adams produced!
Great, but not all the best....
Slave has got to be one of the most under-rated funk bands ever. This CD was long overdue. My only regrets are the song selections. They easily could have filled the CD with only Slave material (i.e. without the Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame stuff). I was disappointed to get an editted version of Snap Shot. Also, where in the world was "For the Love of U", "Party Lites", "Baby Sinister", "Sizzlin' Hot", and even "Volcano Rupture" ? Regardless, I still loved this CD. Now, let's give us "Showtime" !
