Customer Reviews

One of the best Funk compilations I've heard5
Someone first told me about this cd a couple years ago, and I have heard few funk cds since that have topped it. It is so good. Marie Queenie Lyons and Gloria Walker are off the hook, serious soul singing queens. Every track on here is good though. It has all different kinds of funk. Slower bluesy tracks as well as lighter danceable tracks, for twinkle toe types. Each song is thick, gritty, raw. It's really impossible to not move something on your body when you hear it. It's definitely more underground style funk circa 68-73 with most of the artist remaining not so well known by most. Which makes it really good in my book. No starlett types just pure soul.

BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!5
Quality through and through, Gald I got it! Some very funs stuff and good covers of songs you have heard elswhere but done better here.

real funk for all people.4
This cd is fantastic.Funky 45's from the vaults of King Records.Essential listening for serious funk heads.Check out Marie Queenie Lyons, she's awesome.I would like to mention a couple of other discs of 45 funkiness that funk heads should check out.Keb Darges'Legendary Deep Funk Vol.1 is just pure killer and no filler,"Sagittarius Black" by Tim Mcnealy is the jam of all jams. Also worthy of a listen is the first of the Funk Spectrum series which is Josh Davis(a.k.a DJ Shadow)on side one spinning his favorite old funky 45's, and mr.deep funk himself on side two, Keb Darge spinning more of his favorite 45's.Check out "backtalk" by the Second Amendment band on Kebs'side, very cool.this is a new entry since i wrote this review,if it is the last thing you do check out the fantastic "the funky 16 corners".they finally got it right.thats all i can say.
