A dec ent sampler of some of PIR's best artists.
Contrary to what its title implies, this compilation simply provides an overview of what the incomparable "Philly Sound" was all about. Such legends as Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass,Jean Carn, The O'Jays and Billy Paul are all featured singing some great songs but most are edited--you really need to hear the full-length LP versions to appreciate them. Had this project been a 2-CD set it would probably have featured the album versions and far more satisfying musically. But hey...at less than ten bucks it provides a decent introduction to the music made world-famous by Philadelphia International Records.
