Album Description
The 1980's brought the advent of MTV and the ascendancy of "New Wave" music to global popularity. Heavily fusing rock with synthesizers, emotive lyrics, and powerful performances-as dramatized in the emerging art from of the music video-the genre, over time, spawned the alternative music scene, club culture, techno/house, electronica, and more. It also gave rise to the DJ as star, a phenomenon stronger today than ever. While still loving his original vinyl versions, compilation producer Craig DeGraff, a child of the 80s with a contemporary pop culture outlook, craved to take "my favorite songs of all time and have my favorite DJs and artists remix them." That dream comes true with Rhino's collection of supertight, all-new turnable reinventions of massive hits from the '80s!
Customer Reviews
Doesn't get much better than this...
Classic underground music from my teens remixed using today's underground electronic/techno sensibilities. How much more can one ask for other than perhaps longer versions of a few of the tracks.
Note to naysayers -- these aren't fluffy, cheese trance remixes. Because the remixes are more in tune with the "electroclash/discopunk" sound of the past 5 years than with the Eurotrance of the late 90s, a lot of the original rock/new wave feel is still present with live bass and guitars incorporated into the techno framework.
Anyone who would like one CD to bridge the 20 years b/w two distinct eras of groundbreaking music needs to own a copy of this!
Future Retro
Fantastic, simply the best Retro 80's CD I own. Would be 5 star rating only a little dissapointed with "White Lines" cover. Apart from this the CD lives in my car and is played always.
The 80's are back! Again?
How many Remixes did I hear...
How many Cd's/ Vinyls i bought and played to know one thing:
There's Nothing Like the O.G. Versions.
BUT:
This Compilation is extraordinary!
Try to listen to The Cure, Morrissey and Depeche Mode!
BUT 2:
They're totally Housed! So If You Are not into Housebearts. Don't get yourself this compilation. But If you are, you'll give the compilation 10 stars rating! :o)
