Customer Reviews
Kandi is still great
I wasn't sure how I was going to like the new direction of Hed Kandi, being an obsessive fan of all of the collections for a few years now; Mark Doyle did a great job of finding and putting together great music in all of the different formats and I was disappointed to find that he was leaving Hed Kandi. I also was dismayed to see the new cover art--they've gone with a new artist and changed up the look of the iconic Kandi girls that we've come to love.
So even though I had lowered expectations, I purchased this CD anyway--and I was extremely suprised. This is, I think, the best compiled Hed Kandi Mix collection to date--I've never been the biggest fan of the Hed Kandi mixes, because I like to burn off songs to the mp3 player in their unmixed state. However, this one is extremely listenable, and good party music--Disc 1 is a Disco Kandi mix, Disc 2 is a Twisted Disco mix, and Disc 3 is an UNMIXED Back to Love collection that they are calling a bonus disc this time.
For me, the standout track is on the Twisted Disco cd called "Why", which samples the famous synthesizer riff from The Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams"--it's a monster dance floor song.
This collection is highly recommended, and I look forward now, instead of looking with trepidation, at what Team Kandi has to offer us in the year ahead.
From a new Hed Kandi fan
I've been into Hed Kandi for almost a year and I love, love the label and nearly all of the music they provide! I'm not a DJ or anyone who is completely devoted to house or any club music (and I still listen to pop as well), and I don't really have time for clubs since I have to work and I go to graduate school. So from someone who is new to Hed Kandi and don't know how they sell anything from a marketing point of view, so I can't judge on the company itself. However, just from listening to the music, I really like this collection. Disc 1 has been in my CD player for awhile when it first came out and I love listening to it during work and play, especially Funkerman, Hott22, Full Intention, Royksopp, Sunfreakz, Soul Central, and Shiny Grey. There are some tracks that I like as well from Disc 2. DJ Gregory's Elle is a particular favorite since I love the guitar with the electronic bass. The music flows well and I love the rhythms and beats that I don't hear at all in the U.S. music charts.
Pretty good, but there's better Hed Kandi out there
I've been a fan of Hed Kandi's Beach House and Stereo Sushi series. I bought this because I've had luck with with Hed Kandi and I liked the idea of a live house mix. It's not great, but it's not bad. I agree with another reviewer who said you're not going to find a particular track you like. It's good background music, but if you want to sit and enjoy an album, this one will give you a headache. Some tracks are just too long and monotonous (hence why it might be good as background music). I suggest purchasing a cd from one of the series I mentioned above.
