Surprise Unusual Disco Mix
I got this mix in a recent rush of collecting whatever (real) Disco mixes I could find - as it turns out, there are not that many. This is a recent mix of various more obscure TK Disco songs, and as a mix it is really solid. In fact when you compare the mix with the full length versions of the same tracks (provided on the second disc) you can tell there was some real inspiration in the creation of this mix.
First of all, it is not the stereotypical Disco sound at all, instead it captures a more Southern, swampy disco style that the TK label (coming from Florida) was known for at the time. The first instrumental song sets the tone with a tight steady guitar groove and Zappa-esque breaks. Each track keeps the pace and flows into the next very smoothly; and the few vocal tracks work well without taking too much away from the solid instrumental structure of the mix.
While I feel there were other TK tracks that would have fit in well with the tone and sound of this mix (Jimmy Bo Hornes 'Spank' and Cellie Bee and the Buzz Bunch's 'Superman" come to mind) - overall I have to say I have really enjoyed listening to the TK sound on this disc more than I have on the other (non-mixed) TK compilations.
