Countlessly imitated... but there's only one CHIC...
All through the second half of the 70's, countless other bands tried to imitate and emulate the CHIC sound - a sound created by the pure genius of guitarist NILE RODGERS and bassist BERNARD EDWARDS.
But the truth is CHIC had a sound so cool, so stylish and, yes, so chic, that nobody ever toped them in their game.
The secret was a stunning use of a great rhythm section, guitar, bass, strings, horns and (perhaps) the best vocal group on that decade - woth NORMA JEAN WRIGHT, LUTHER VANDROSS (no less) ALFA ANDERSON and DIVA GREY (among others).
LP after LP, they kept releasing songs that, in a way, helped define the shape of pop during the late 70's.
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE is a non stop, dance floor essential disco track with all the talent fully displayed. It is so rich and full of nuances. Sometimes, I do catch myself singing "yowsah, yousah, yousaaahhh!!"
(laughs)
SÃO PAULO is my favorite song in the album. It is the perfect definition of 70's cool. Check that bass!!!!! Check that flute!!!!!
The other tracks are also great. EVERYBODY DANCE is just another classic!!
This album deserves to be in everybody's collection. Enjoy!
Wonderful
Overall, this is a great CD to have in your music collection if you are a CHIC fan. It has at least three very well known and great songs of theirs on it that are usually heard on the radio. To be honest with you, I only purchased this for one song only..."Falling In Love With You". Everytime I hear it on the radio it becomes one of those "that's my song!" moments. I liked most of the other songs too. The only songs I did not care for that much were "You Can Get By' and 'Est-ce Que C'est Chic". I just could not get into those songs' mood and rythm like I could with the others. That's just me, you might love those two songs so it's a matter of taste. If you find this CD at a reasonable price like I did, buy it. Thanks for reading.
Olies But Goodies
What a walk down memory lane! I am so excited to relive my college days with the sounds of Chic.
