Disappointing Dinner
I must admit that I am a BIG fan of the Supperclub series. I was disappointed when the final CD in the series was released in 2005. When the "ninesins" series was announced, I was hopeful that the new volumes would continue the tradition which was established by Jurr and Roelove.
Unfortunately, the third CD in the "ninesins series" leaves a lot to be desired. Although disc one has a promising beginning, it quickly degenerates into an assortment of styles which are difficult to digest. While the Supperclub series contained music which was woven into a seamless mix, the "beauty" CD attempts to weld ambient and deep house without any type of transition. One moment you are floating in space and several seconds later you are dumped onto a dance floor. This makes it difficult to establish an atmosphere conducive to romance or even maintain casual conversation since the abrupt mood changes jar a listener rather than transport them. The material appears to be of the type one would encounter in a bargain basement deep house mix rather than of the quality I had come to expect. Few attempts are made to segue material and the jumps are disconcerting, to say the least. While I certainly respect the abilities of pathaan, who mixed and compiled this CD, I would suggest that the attempt to demonstrate his knowledge of world music only hinders the flow of the material. The Nomads series would appear to be more appropriate for demonstration of his abilities. While I will continue to purchase the volumes in the ninesins series, this disc should be approached without the preconceptions established by the Supperclub series. That advice however should not be constured as a recommendation
