Best of the best!!
Okay...let me start by saying that I don't buy anything online until I read reviews, and do a lot of research, and listen to other people's experiences on products they buy. This helps me make an informed decision, without wasting money. Well, I have mostly heard praise about this player, and very little negative, so I decided to take the plunge, and buy a player from a company I have never heard of, until a few months ago...

All I can say is wow!! Where did Cowon come from? How long have they been around, because I have in my hands the best sounding mp3 player I have ever heard. This player is an absolute joy to use, look at, and hold in your hand. It screams quality, and pictures don't do it justice. It is minimalist, and kind of industrial and simple looking, but it has a high end look to it, and feel that separates itself from everything out there.

I have owned 4 players, an ipod nano 4th gen, a creative zen micro, a creative zen, and a iriver clix. All of the above players I enjoyed very much and all except for the ipod nano had great sound quality. I'm sorry, but the ipods to me are overrated in my book. The interface is easy and nice to use, but the sound quality isn't that great. I don't care what cnet or anyone else says...ipods are acceptable and aesthetically pleasing, but overrated. That's just my opinion, but if you have ever owned one, you know what I mean. The D2 blows all of the mentioned players away by miles, and it sounds great right out of the box, with the eq flat. I didn't have to tweak anything. It just sounds phenomenal. I recommend ditching the provided headphones. In a word, they suck!! I have sennheisers I purchased on amazon, and they sound great. Haven't hooked the Grado's up to it yet, but I am sure the D2 will push them nicely.

The UI takes a little getting used to. You have to get deeper into menus to get to things you normally get to quicker in other players, but its a minor gripe. The touchscreen is very responsive, and works just fine with your finger. I have big hands and have no problem navigating the player. Also, the player can be customized with wallpapers and such and you can actually change the UI with ones created by others online. I haven't tried it yet but you can change the functionality of the player if you don't like the way it works out of the box.

The battery life is incredible and beats anything on the market. This player plays loud... louder than you can tolerate. I can see myself going deaf with this thing. You can also buy a sdhc card up to 16GB and really make this a huge storage powerhouse!! Even if you only buy the 4gb version, for another $20 or so you can buy a card and expand the memory. The beauty of this is you can buy as many cards as you need and never run out of storage. To me, that's just awesome! The video is nice and smooth, and my pictures look great. As you can tell I love this player, and the longer I own it I will update more on it. It sounds amazing and plays just about any music file known to man. Take it from someone that has played around with just about everything out there. This player is the best of the best, and has it all where it counts. Near perfect sound quality! The white player looks better than the black in my opinion...more classy and high end looking, but it's a matter of taste. I hope this review helps and thanks Amazon for selling this player so cheap!! It is a steal and Cowon has me as a customer for life. Keep up the good work! I will report on durablity after I have had it awhile longer... ENJOY!!

UPDATE: I have had this player for a few months now and it rocks... If you are thinking about an mp3 player, or an ipod. Get this player. Cowon has recently come out with the D2+, and except for bbe+ enhancement and a slightly different UI it's the same player. I even heard you can change the current D2, into a D2+, with a firmware upgrade. CRAZY!! If you are an audiophile and like music on the go... this is a no brainer. I also recommend the S9 form Cowon, but that player does not have memory expansion. SO far so good with my D2...no problems yet and it has powered every headphone I can plug into it. Just awesome!!!

The Best!
This is a really great player. I just wanted a great FLAC (lossless music) player with great sound (it also plays wma and ogg). This plays videos and has a built in FM tuner also!

The sound is really great, and it is powerful enough to drive large headphones. It will blow you ears apart if you are not careful.

One other great thing is the screen. I don't baby my player. It goes in my pocket with change and keys. The screen is really scratch proof.

I love it and I will gladly buy another if this one breaks.

Fantastic the first day, white screen the second day.
It took every format I threw at it, straight out of the box on day one. Simply amazing. Day Two, done with my format testing... I tried to drop my everyday music and video files in and it froze, never to return. White screen of death with no usb recognition by the computer. I tried everything I could including tctool but nothing brought it back. I contacted JetAudio (the US distributor for Cowon), but never heard a reply to my questions... so back to Amazon it went.

It has now been a month since my purchase and return and JetAudio has still not replied.
