From the suggestive series of photos in the CD's packaging to the aerobicized dance-floor workouts within, Faith Hill refuses to concede an inch of crossover dominance to Shania Twain. Except for a seductive duet with husband Tim McGraw on "Let's Make Love" and an occasional pinch of fiddle or steel guitar, there's little here to characterize Hill as a country artist. As pop, the results range from pretty ("Breathe," "Love Is a Sweet Thing") to pretty slight ("I Got My Baby," "If My Heart Had Wings") to borderline inane ("Bringing Out the Elvis," the voyeuristic twist of "The Way You Love Me"). Though Hill's version of Bruce Springsteen's "If I Should Fall Behind" is admirably understated, too much of the album substitutes surface dazzle for emotional depth. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews
Great CD for the Faith Hill fan
I'm not really into country music, but I just love Faith Hill because some of her songs crossed over into the contempory music world. So, I was kind of nervous buying this CD because I love her Cry album and that was soft rock/adult contempory music. I bought the Breathe album and just fell in love with it!
For some reason, in both the Cry and Breathe album, I just don't like the first song, so that's the first song on the album I don't like. And the ratings for the rest are:
2. I Got My Baby 8/10- One of my favorite songs on the album when I first got it, but because I listen to it so much, I'm almost sick of it.
3. Love is a Sweet Thing 7/10- One of the on and off again favorite songs on the album. It can be cheesey at times.
4. Breathe 9/10- Still one of my favorite Faith Hill songs ever!
5. Let's Make Love 8/10- I finally gave this song a chance and I absolutely adore it and you can feel the love between them as they sing this song.
6. It Will Be Me 9/10- My favorite 'I-told-you-I'll-be-there-for-you-but-you-didn't-listen' songs ever!
7. The Way You Love Me 10/10- Even though the radio overplayed this song, I still like it and the music video always makes me laugh.
8. If I'm Not In Love 9/10- Faith Hill always has a couple of depressing songs on her albums and this is one of them. I just happen to like depressing songs and this is one of my favorite.
9. Bringing Out The Elvis 1/10- My least favorite song from her. I just can't stand to listen to it so I always skip it.
10. If My Heart Had Wings 9/10- Very catchy and the lyrics are great! I also love to dance with it when no one is around.
11. If I Should Fall Behind 10/10- There is no words I can express on how I love this song! It's just so beautiful and very calm and I don't know why everyone is dissing this song. The orginal verison is also wonderful.
12. That's How Love Moves 5/10- One of the 'eh' songs on the album.
13. There Will Come a Day 6/10- Another 'eh' song.
So, if you love Faith Hill, get this CD! You won't regret it!
Faith Arrives
Amazing. The one word that can really describe this album. This is the album which basically put Faith on the map outside of the country realm. With hits like "Breathe" and "The Way You Love Me", how can you go wrong? Not to mention there is not a bad track on here. If you love Faith or if you are someone looking to get into her music, definitely buy this album. She was amazing before but her albums only got better from here! Well done Faith!
nice, after all...
I got to say that I've always loved Faith so much (and still do!) but although I like the most of the the songs she chose for BREATHE, I think she should've remained closer to her previous albums. Well, I like BREATHE, but I don't like the fact the she turned her back to country music!
