One of my favorite albums!
I remember when this album came out in October 2002. I was blown away, and I still am when I listen to it. This is honestly my favorite Faith Hill album. I remember hearing her say that she wants her fans to know she's in the music, and you can hear it on this album. A lot of people balked at it, as it's more mainstream and not very country at all. In fact, it incorporates adult contemporary, pop, gospel and R&B. It's an emotional album from start to finish. It opens with the funky uptempo "Free", a song about being free from the chains of the past. The title track was the first single, originally done by Angie Aparo, I prefer Faith's version over his, it's a song that just grabs you with it's words and it's power. The song was a fair hit, almost hitting the top 10 on the country charts, and topping the AC charts. "One" is a funky R&B number where Faith gets to show her vocals off a bit more. "When The Lights Go Down" is another favorite, it was the second single. Not a huge hit, but it's a beautiful song with a nice message that will resonate with most people. "Beautiful" is an interesting ballad, where she speaks the verses, and sings the chorus. "Unsaveable" is another bluesy R&B number, about not being able to save a love that's not there. "Baby You Belong" is a nice pop number that would have been a big hit I predict, if it had been released. Artist Pink and Linda Perry wrote the song "If You're Gonna Fly Away", a inspirational song about reaching out to someone who has a drug addiction. "Stronger" is an excellent ballad, I think it should have been a single, not only that but the first single. I predict it would have been a smash hit. "If This Is The End" is a moving ballad about not wanting to let go of a love. "This Is Me" is a rock flavored song that is very inspirational, and same goes for "Back To You", which she rocks out. "I Think I Will" is my favorite song on the disc, it has an interesting sound and killer guitar throughout, another inspriational number. "You're Still Here" is a sad ballad about loss, and trying to move on. It was remixed for country radio, and the last single from CRY. There's also a bonus track worth seeking out, if you didn't get it on the "Cry" single. "Wicked" is a really interesting song, one of my faves. And you should try to find the "You're Still Here" single for the country remix, and another b-side, the moving ballad called "Shadows". Overall this is one of my all time favorite albums, she may not write her music but she chooses some great stuff! Great from start to finish.
