Customer Reviews

Wailin Waylon4
It's always good to hear Waylon, & this greatest hits covers most stuff. I would have liked to have had more examples of his work with Chet & some with Jesse, but what are ya gonna do. The man sang with the voice of God, a powerful virile, awe-inspiring baritone, yet full of tremulous emotion-sometimes wracked with the pain of life's mistakes & broken hearts, often self depracating humor. Any one who knew him or saw him in concert knew he was funnier then the hell he often sang about, a trait he shared with Elvis. If you only have room for one Waylon cd on your shelves, this is the one to own

Essential Songs4
While I mostly listen to more modern country now (since that is what is on the radio) I got started on the classics. I rediscovered in college my love for the old bad boys of country music. This album is a must if you like the old outlaws of this genere.

The Ultimate Outlaw, Waylon Jennings5
I have been a lead singer in bands since 1965. In the mid 1990's I was invited to join a country band, which was about the only genres I hadn't done before. They had a motive and so did I. They wanted a whining harp player to back "their" Willie Nelson sound alike and sing harmony. After a couple of gigs, I was asked to sing lead on a number. I chose Waylon's, "Rose In Paradise". From that night on, we'd do duets together.

Earlier I mentioned that they had a motive and I did too. I wanted to take their lead guitar player for a new group I'd been working with in a basement. I got him to come jam with the new guys and by nights end, we all wanted to take OUR band out and work. It worked well, except for the "Willie" band.

All players were well experienced and covered every genre.

Back to Waylon, we covered he and Willie, but a good dose of hard core blues, Rock & Roll and southern rock. During those days, I learned to appreciate Waylon Jennings and where ever we played, we did some of the "outlaws" music. Waylon's lyrics were many times deep (Six White Horses & Amanda).

I bought this CD when I purchased Clapton's 2007 benefit Guitar festival, because of Amazon's free shipping over $25, I got both for the retail price of the Clapton's DVD.

If you like the outlaws, this is a must for your complete collection.
