Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
"This album is more me," says Gracin. "I was able to focus on making the album I wanted to make. For the first album, I was still in the service, so I had to fly in and out of Nashville to record when I could. This time around it had my undivided attention."
About the Artist
Josh Gracin's life overflows with extraordinary, character-building stories. But, first and foremost, he's well-known because he's an undeniably talented singer and entertainer. So, here are the facts that matter most: He's the only male solo country artist in recent years to release a debut album with three consecutive Top 5 country hits (including the No. 1 hit "Nothin' to Lose"). He's also one of only three new male country singers to be introduced in the last four years to earn a gold album, and Gracin's self-titled debut is quickly edging in on platinum status.
"It's been an amazing couple of years," says the broad-shouldered former Marine with the dark eyes and bright smile. "Country music fans have been really receptive and encouraging. I feel like, for a first step, we did really well. But it was just a first step."
The young star known for his energetic stage performances made sure his new work focused on his strengths: live-wire, rocking country that blends wit and wholesome fun; inspiring story songs about being true to yourself; moral tales rich with Middle-American values and a strong spiritual core; and songs that celebrate the down-to-earth lifestyle that Gracin pursues and personifies.
"I wanted this album to reflect my energy and my values," he says. "There's nothing I love more than getting a crowd on its feet and getting them to sing along and rock with me to a great song. I also wanted songs of substance that really explain who I am and what I stand for. And that's what I hope that we've accomplished."
From the beginning, Gracin has distinguished himself by walking to his own drumbeat. He first entered America's homes as one of the most charismatic and distinctive performers in the second season of American Idol, the first to bring country music to the pop-oriented hit show.
Still, Gracin earned his record deal the old-fashioned way. He stood in the offices of Disney's Lyric Street Records in Nashville and, in front of a room of record executives, performed solo. An offer for a recording contract immediately followed.
The rest is when the real story of Josh Gracin begins. His first album introduced him with the top hit singles "I Want to Live," "Nothin' to Lose" and "Stay with Me (Brass Bed)," while his electrifying live shows thrilled and energized crowds everywhere. Now a civilian and able to concentrate on his career, he has bought a new home near Nashville with his family.
"My life has changed a lot in a few years, but I haven't changed," the singer says. "I have a family that keeps me grounded. For me, it's all about the music. I just want to get out there and help people have a good time and play some great music for them."
Album Description
After delivering a Gold-selling debut and three consecutive top 5 singles to country radio, "American Idol" favorite Josh Gracin will release his much anticipated sophomore album, We Weren't Crazy, on April 1, 2008.
Josh Gracin's new CD, We Weren't Crazy allows audiences to take a more personal look inside the life of the "American Idol" season 2 finalist and former Marine. Josh worked with producers Marty Williams and Brett James on the CD's eleven tracks.
Gracin is admittedly most excited about his newest single, the title track, "We Weren't Crazy." The autobiographical song was written by Gracin, Tony Lopacinski, and Bobby Pinson about Gracin's personal journey from childhood to raising children and having a family of his own. "This time around I got to dig in and share my stories as a songwriter. I'm so proud of how this song turned out," he said.
Josh Gracin's debut album is certified gold by the RIAA and has sold over 695,000 copies. He's one of only three new male country singers to be introduced in the last four years to earn a gold album. Josh is also the only male solo country artist in recent years to release a debut album with three consecutive Top 5 country hits, including his first #1, "Nothin' To Lose."
Customer Reviews
Outstanding
I have enjoyed Josh Gracin's music since first hearing him on American Idol. He performed at our Fair and the concert was outstanding.
Worth the wait
After his first album; which was awesome! I didn't think he would ever put out another one, but this one was worth the wait. It's well worth the price.
lovin it
Even though i've never bought a cd by Josh Gracin. I still decided to check this out after being recommended with this cd. I went online and bought it a few days ago and have listened to it 3 times in the past couple days. If its any indication, i really enjoy the cd throughout.
Love how he tackles a song its like having fun and living on the edge. But also some sensibilities and reservations at the same time. Songs like "We Weren't Crazy" and "Livin It Up" for starters really stand out along with "Telluride" which is another fun, cool song that i really found myself liking. It's 11 songs full of country and energy that bristles through on every track.
An excellent followup cd to his 2004 "Josh Gracin" effort. For anyone that enjoys a good country cd or anyone just looking for something a little different but familiar at the same time.
