![]() | In My Mind by Heather Headley
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $2.95 One of R&B's most overlooked artists, Heather Headley followed up her promising debut with this amazing album. This album gave an even better indication of what Heather is capable of, showing that it can only go up from here in the future.

![]() | Tamia: Between Friends by Tamia
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.38 Due to issues with her label, Tamia left Atlantic Records in favour of an Indie label, where she first released this album in South Africa. It was then re-vamped (to add even more great material), and finally released in the US/Canada. This is a strong contender for Tamia's best album.

![]() | The Makings of Me by Monica
Buy new: $18.97 / Used from: $2.90 People really need to get over the "controversial" (not really) album cover, and give this album a fair shot. This contains quite a bit of classic Monica, but was unfortunately overlooked due to her first single, which was mistakenly perceived as a weak attempt to be trendy.

![]() | Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship by India.Arie
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $3.59 While most people were dissatisfied with Voyage to India, few can deny that India really redeemed herself with her third offering. This one even gained her more public appeal, with the lead single I Am Not My Hair. A great album for people who want depth, and good vocals.
|
![]() | Every Woman Dreams by Shanice
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $4.25 Another one of the most overlooked artists in the industry. Barring an extremely irritating skit following the lead single, this album makes a solid listen all the way through. It isn't as good as her last one, but it's enough to keep her current.
|
![]() | Oral Fixation Vol. 2 by Shakira
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.98 Shakira's long-awaited follow up to her English debut in no way disappointed. Shakira seems to have improved her songwriting abilities, and she manages to add more depth by making a few political commentaries, without being overdone.
|
![]() | I'm Not Dead by Pink
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $8.53 One of my favourite albums of the year, and arguably Pink's best work. Pink masterfully balances emotion, political commentary, and humour to make an all-around interesting and engaging album. (As a side note, the people who think I Got Money Now is gloating really need to LISTEN to the lyrics, and tone).
|
![]() | A Girl Like Me by Rihanna
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.75 What would a year be without a Rihanna album (not necessarily a good thing). This is definitely a step up from her debut, although most people don't like that is is more balld-heavy. Rihanna's improved, but it still seems very rushed. I would love for her to take a year or two off, and really work on an album.

![]() | So Amazin' by Christina Milian
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $0.01 I could have sworn this came out in 2005. Oh well. It's a solid album, with very catchy material, but it's missing something for me. It's About Time was better. Christina needs to be careful though, as her albums were never sold very well. Let's hope the next one is even better.
|
![]() | LeToya by LeToya
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $0.50 As much as everyone raves about this album, I didn't find it THAT great. It was good, sure. But I found it wasn't very balanced. The song order could have been arranged better. LeToya really shines on the slower tracks, as the upbeat tracks tend to sound same-y.
|
![]() | Cassie by Cassie
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $2.11 One of the most widely-discussed albums because of Cassie's talent (or lack thereof). I only listened to this once..and it was okay. Nothing really special. But, with the right production, Cassie does have potential. Keep in mind J Lo got through 5 albums with limited vocals.
|
![]() | Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $4.48 Most people either love or hate this album, largely because they were put off by how it was described. It actually has very little of the 20s/30s sound that Christina mentioned, as most of it sounds quite current. It probably could have been trimmed to fit on disc, but as it is, its a great album.
|
![]() | A Public Affair by Jessica Simpson
Buy new: $21.98 / Used from: $0.67 This was another album that was just okay for me. Jessica tried to be way too experimental, and in most cases, it didn't work. The tracks that worked best were the kinds of songs Jessica is known for (big ballads), while the rest ranged from good (If You Were Mine) to just awful (Push Your Tush). Hope it's better next time.

![]() | B'day
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.00 I would really have liked to see more maturity from Beyonce this time around, but the album was good overall. Lyricism as a whole needs a lot of work, although production was good. Beyonce should also take a year off, and come back with a really great album. This felt rushed to me.
|
![]() | FutureSex / LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.00 I keep listening to this album, hoping it will grow on me. But it really hasn't. It's a step up from his debut in a sense, although lyrics need a lot of work. Like Beyonce's album, the production was good, but the lyrics were bland. SexyBack has got to be one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard.
|
![]() | A Thousand Different Ways by Clay Aiken
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $1.10 A cover album, containing many classic love songs. It would have been nice to hear some new material, but this will do for now. According to Clay, they intended to make new material, but ended up accumulating cover tracks in the process. I wonder what happened to whatever tracks they had recorded.
|
![]() | Mario Vazquez
Despite an amazing first single, this album as a whole ended up pretty mediocre. Mario has great potential, he just needs some better material. His vocals sounded good, but the production was very average.
|
![]() | The Open Door by Evanescence
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.79 Another album that was widely underrated, for no apparent reason. It's not as commerical as Fallen, but it is just as good. This album is more of a grower, and has more of a darker sound. However, the material has just as much depth, and is quite creative.
|
![]() | The High Road by JoJo
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $3.80 An enormous improvement over JoJo's debut, especially given her age. She has matured both vocally and lyrically, while keeping her material age appropriate. (For those who believe a few songs have sexual connotations...that's not unusual for people her age. Look at any public high school). Can't wait to see what's next.
|
![]() | The Return by Ruben Studdard
Buy new: $18.97 / Used from: $2.41 Another artist who has improved greatly since his debut. Ruben here has stuck with what he does best, rather than trying to go the hip-hop route of his debut, and it works to his favour. It's still far from a perfect album, but it's progress in the right direction.
|
![]() | Daughtry by Daughtry
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $6.15 I don't like this album quite as much as when it first came out, although it is still a great album. Chris has a great voice, reminiscent of Chad Kroeger, and his material suits it impeccably. I was particularly impressed with the tracks he wrote completely on his own.
|
![]() | Ciara: The Evolution by Ciara
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $2.00 Yet another immense improvement. Goodies was a decent album, but this one really lives up to its name. Ciara proves her ability to make innovative, catchy material as well as demonstrates that she actually can sing, at least tolerably. Let's hope the next album is just as good.
