It charges the battery
Have owned this over a year and haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. It is the same charger that comes with the Digital Rebel XT.

Great Canon charger for my EOS 400D
I lost my charger and found a brand new one very cheap on amazon.com compared to prices in Denmark, so I'm very pleased.

Convenient, works great!
I love this charger -- it's small enough to fit in my camera bag, pocket, or purse; the prongs conveniently fold down so it's very portable. It also works fairly quickly -- it would often recharge my videocamera battery in just a few hours. Instead of having to plug in my camera to charge the battery, rendering it inoperable during that time, with a second battery I can use the camera while the other battery is charging.

This came in very handy on a recent land/sea trip to Alaska; I was constantly draining the battery videotaping everything from whales to bears to glaciers, but with this little charger, I always had a backup battery ready to use. I highly recommend it!
