Like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings cycle, Frank Herbert's epic Dune saga has found its road to the screen a difficult one. This follow-up to the Sci-Fi Channel's modestly budgeted, yet warmly received first mini-series installment profits greatly from the unabashedly epic score of budding young film scorer Brian Tyler. The composer begins with a strong symphonic foundation, utilizing themes whose melodic power is straightforward, yet often suitably Wagnerian in their dynamic and execution. Tyler then gracefully interweaves a variety of ethnic instruments and modalities to give his cues a rich, if deceptively exotic sense of time and place. It's an epic score that belies its cable roots, yet one that remains masterfully restrained and informed by a dedication of purpose that's even inspired the composer to translate the lyric of his gorgeous, ethereal vocal piece, "Inama Nushuf" into the language of novelist Herbert's native Fremen people. This is the sound of a confidant young musician meeting a daunting dramatic challenge, and then some. --Jerry McCulley

Children of Dune Soundtrack5
Wow- great music, and great quality. This CD included EVERY musical piece in the movie. I love listening to it.

This music is too die for. I rarely give 5 stars. The main theme is just superb. I just happened to bump into a YouTube fan trailer of star trek when I heard this and bought it and it is brillient

Awe Inspiring! My Favorite Soundtrack!5
I've been a fan of Turkish composer Omar Faruk Tekbilek for around ten years now and, listening to the soundtrack while watching "Children of Dune", I would have sworn that part of this amazing and evocative work was the art of Tekbilek. In fact, it's an abbreviated version of a true magnum opus from Brian Tyler, in which "only" 36 of the original 174 songs were assembled. It's a true emotional ride as you listen, and the perfect accompaniment to the action which you see on screen. Listening to the CD, the power of the compositions is even more evident, without the (albeit excellent and genuinely remarkable) film to distract you.

Tyler draws from what appear to be Turkish musical elements and instruments, as well as sweeping classical and epic pieces, to create a truly moving set of music from track 1 all through to 36. Of particular note is, of course, "Inama Nushif", which Tyler translated into Fremen from reading Herbert's books; "War Begins", a martial piece which literally makes you want to take up a sword and charge into battle; "My Skin is Not My Own", a complex piece filled with delightful and inspiring Middle Eastern elements and instruments; as well as "Dune Messiah", a melancholy piece whose vocals can bring tears to your eyes if you're open to that sort of thing (I'm usually not) and whose theme repeats throughout many of the subsequent pieces of music. The pieces are all rather short, usually around 1 ½ minutes, but they definitely make themselves felt and their emotional context known. In Tyler's amazing score, you cannot help but share the trials, tribulations and tragedies of the remarkable characters from two of Herbert's excellent series.
