Great Instructional DVD for beginners4
As a beginner to QiGong, I am interested in getting started with some simple, yet effective exercises that will provide me with a realistic introduction to the concepts and the practise of this ancient approach to health, well being and longevity.

The five elements exercises are indeed simple. The method of instruction made it very easy to follow and remember the movements involved in performing the sequence. Dr. Lam described each step while an instructor named Ian, I believe, demonstrated the positions and movements. Ian then demonstrated the complete set. At a later point, Dr. Lam demonstrated the complete set as well.
There were two minor distractions throughout the video 1) The way the testimonials were peppered throughout the dvd and 2) Dr. Lam's command of the spoken English language - - - not so much his words as the pace of his speech and the feelings I had as he seemed to have difficulty communicating. Like I said though, these are minor distractions that in no way take away from the effectiveness of the instructional content.
As experts will tell you with any program of physical exercise, it is important to have a warm-up and cool down period. The DVD provides such segments with Dr. Lam providing a QiGong-based explanation for the benefits derived from the 'Wind-Down' segment.
I also appreciated the Sun Style Tai Chi that Dr. Lam demonstrated. This segment provided an intro to an art form that I have just begun to explore.
Overall, this is a great instructonal DVD for beginners to the practise of QiGong.

qigong at its worst1
THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST QIGONG INSTRUCTION I HAVE EVER SEEN. I HAVE OTHER QIGONG DVDS, AND I HAVE BEEN SATISFIED WITH THEM FOR I CAN SEE THE BENEFITS ONE CAN DERIVE FROM THEM. THE MOVEMENTS IN THESE INSTRUCTIONAL DVDS RESULT IN AN UPLIFTING FEELING WHICH A GOOD EXERCISE WILL GENERATE. NOT SO WITH THIS ONE.

I'M SURPRISED ABOUT THE POOR QUALITY OF THIS DVD, BECAUSE PAUL LAM'S FIVE FORM TAI CHI IS EXCELLENT. I DON'T SEE HOW HE WENT SO WRONG WITH THIS ONE.

SO DON'T SAY I DIDN'T TELL YOU.

Good Starting Point3
I liked this DVD overall. I learned about it through an Arthritis Foundation book. I used it for awhile when I was recovering from injuries and unable to practice my other martial art. I found the testimonials a little annoying, after all I already bought the DVD, but the warm ups and QI Gong were good. I like it being broken up in pieces so I was able to work up to what I was conmfortable doing. Overall I found it a good introduction to Qi Gong.
