Masterpiece5
I watched this film together with others to get an idea what "bollywood" is all about. I found it outstanding. It has the quality of great silent film. One comes to think of Griffith, sometimes even Dreyer. Every character, even the minor ones, is fully developped and greatly portrayed. I admired the actors, of course the leads, but also for example the aristocratic woman in love with the prince outshone by the slave girl, pining in the background. What an actress! I think my life would be poorer if I hadn't seen this film, especially the central dance and singing number of the slave girl "I have loved, so what is there to fear?". A hypnotic tune!

Mughal-E-Azam- Grandest saga - the sacrifice....the love and the Legend5
Thy Mughal Emperor Akbar ruled over India for many years. Legends say that the Emperors son Prince Salim had drowned in the love of a gorgeous Court dancer Anarkali but Akbar would never accept their love and could not see a court dancer bearing the crown of the Queen of the Mughal Empire. What shall happen to the love, will the lovers fear and crush their love....no...they defy. As Anarkali dances in Akbars court she proclaims her love saying "if i am in love why should i fear- if nothing veils us from God why should we hide our love from his servants". The film was highly expensive- the sets of the Palaces dazle with beauty and the jewels adorned by the charecters were mostly real . It is a very detailed film with realistic beautifully portrayed charecters. The film to 14 years to make but the sets still stood and the actors were dedicated. Madhubala( playing Anarkali)- said to be India's godess of Venus ( most beautifull) romanced Dilip Kumar( playing prince Salim) earlier in her life and their love was in reality crushed by the actress's father and the people- Their love-their pain and their chemistry is magical and is well reflected in the movie. This film touches one straight in the heart and makes you advance in the emotions of defiance-depth-and unconditional love.
