Battle Royale Directors CutBattle Royale Directors Cut

Battle Royale was the most controversial Japanese film of the millenium -- and beneath the hype was pure substance. In a twisted "game," 42 ninth-grade students are brought to an island and told to kill eachother. An amazing movie that combines action with interesting character development and psychological tension.

Oh Dae Su, the main character of the movie, makes it his goal to seek vengeance and find out who did this to him. More importantly, he seeks to find out why they did it to him. And when he does, you'll be left speechless.
Spirited AwaySpirited Away
Buy new: $23.99 / Used from: $17.49
Animated movies are often not viewed in the same light as live-action movies. And truthfully, most masterpieces ARE live action movies. Spirited Away is special though; the world that is presented in the movie, and especially the characters are absolutely amazing. It's strange, but in all the right ways, and it's one of those movies that can be watched repeatedly.
HeroHero
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $1.74
A nameless warrior reveals to the emperor how he killed several wanted criminals. Not all of what he says is true, however, and the emperor grows suspicious. The result is several conflicting flashbacks that force the viewer to conclude what is true, and what is not. By the end, however, all is revealed. The effect is lost after the first viewing, unfortunately – Hero’s only flaw.
Ichi the Killer (Unrated Edition)Ichi the Killer (Unrated Edition)
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $8.99
Ichi the Killer is a brutal DVD that tells the story of torture, sadomasochism, crime, and the Yakuza; and it pulls no punches as it does this. There are some extremely graphic scenes in this film, but for those interested, it presents its subject material in a very entertaining manner. The two main characters are not necessarily likable, but you will remember them both forever. That's a promise.
House of Flying DaggersHouse of Flying Daggers
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.47
Very little of what House of Flying Daggers does is entirely original. It may be taking a page out of the books of wuxia films before it, but there is no question that it's better than most of them. The plot surmise is that a general attempts to breach a village of assassins (The House of Flying Daggers) by taking advantage of and following a blind member of the house. It is very interesting.
Jet Li's Fearless (Unrated Widescreen Edition)Jet Li's Fearless (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $3.00
"Jet Li's final martial arts epic!" ...Until his next one, the following year. Assuming he WERE going to go out with Fearless, however, it would have been quite a last hoorah. Jet Li plays the role of the historical Huo Yuanjia. Fearless takes liberties with the plot, but still provides one that is remarkably enjoyable; and as you might expect, the fight scenes are very well done.
So CloseSo Close
Buy new: $21.99 / Used from: $8.83
So Close is a film about two sisters who work as assassins. The film's premise is that they have a setalite system that allows them to view the CCTV feed of any buildings they like. It's a bit of a stretch, but once you accept that the movie is simply brilliant. It goes from having a Matrix-like feel at the start -- pretty cool -- to a movie that opens up as entirely original -- and remains cool.
Ab-Normal BeautyAb-Normal Beauty
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $5.19
Ab-normal Beauty is a dark movie. It follows an art student who witnesses a car crash. Taking pictures, she finds herself excited and aroused by the death. Her mind than begins to descend into chaos. By the time she begins to realize something is wrong, however, her life gets turned upside down by an "admireer" leaving an actual snuff tape on her doorstep. Crazy stuff, but great stuff.
