From the Publisher
A unique book—the first of its kind. No longer do patients have to accept that their infertility is "just bad luck" and they just have to "keep on trying." No longer should women with recurrent miscarriages have to listen to their doctor telling them that their loss was "God's will" or that they ought to be thankful because their baby was probably chromosomally abnormal. The statistics simply do not support such claims—in fact, they show that repeated reproductive failure can be a symptom of wider health problems in the mother. Furthermore, the root cause can be treated—not only to promote the chances of a successful pregnancy, but to improve the mother's health long-term.
From the Author
In response to growing demand, the thoughts and theories of the internationally acclaimed fertility specialist Dr. Alan Beer have been documented. "Is Your Body Baby-Friendly?" explains for the first time ever why "unexplained" infertility, IVF failures and recurrent miscarriages happen.
This book shows how the immune system can behave in a way that prevents a pregnancy from continuing. High levels of Natural Killer cells, genetic compatibility between partners and blood clotting problems are all significant causes of reproductive failure.
Autoimmunity—either inherited or environmentally triggered—is a major reason for the increase in infertility and miscarriage today. In addition to medical treatments, there are also natural ways that the immune system can be moderated to create a more "baby-friendly" environment.
For the first time, readers will be able to see that their reproductive problems have a root cause and that in many cases, they can be addressed with immune therapy and possibly by making certain changes to their lifestyle.

Foreword
Reproductive failure and repeated pregnancy loss is devastating for the patients involved. The devastation is emotional, physical and financial and can mean the loss of valuable ovarian time for the patient, and frustration and disappointment for the practitioners involved.
There is always a reason for any pregnancy loss and this book very eloquently lays out the standard testing. Dr. Alan Beer then examines and categorizes what can be done in the so-called unexplained, and by inference "hopeless," cases. Once the usual factors like chromosomal abnormalities, uterine defects, infections and the hormonal milieu have been excluded, this book speaks to a group of patients who still have unexplained loss.
The immune system is at the center of who we are. It protects us against infections and abnormal cells that can in some cases become malignant. Many patients with cancers previously labeled terminal and untreatable are now being treated by inducing a favorable immune response to markers derived from the actual tumors themselves.
It amazes me how long it has taken fertility practitioners to make the connection between recurrent failed treatment and recurrent loss, and the immune mechanism of attack – given the fact that the implanting embryo is genetically different from the mother or carrier. Something almost magical happens to prevent rejection of this graft in the vast majority of pregnancies. For a small group of patients, this magical event does not happen and we are left with immune attack and thrombosis, which either prevents implantation or causes loss or inadequate intrauterine nutrition.
Dr. Alan Beer has devoted his life to the investigation and treatment of recurrent failed treatment and pregnancy loss. I have had the privilege of knowing him and treating patients with him for almost 15 years.
In this book, he seeks rational explanations and lays out modalities of treatment, which have helped thousands of patients who previously had been given no hope, to receive the precious gift of Parenthood.

Invaluable resource
This is an invaluable resource for patients, OBs, and especially REs. If you've suffered just one m/c, do not blindly accept your OB's advice to simply try again w/o doing any research. After giving birth to a healthy boy, I had my 1st m/c at age 33. My OB told me to try again. After all, it worked the 1st time with the birth of my son. So, we tried and tried and tried. After 3 m/cs, we finally met Dr. Beer, who saw red flags in my immune system. One year later, I was holding my miracle baby girl in my arms at the hospital. Dr. Beer explains a very difficult science in language we can all understand and has helped countless couples complete their families after suffering many tragic losses and being unsuccessfully treated (not to mention financially and emotionally drained) by REs. If only immune testing were routinely performed on all couples seeking help by REs. . . This book is groundbreaking and highly recommended. Thank you to Dr. Beer for dedicating his life to the science of Reproductive Immunology and for sharing his science with us through this book and his medical practice.
We are forever indebted to Dr. Beer
After 5 miscarriages and trying practically everything including lots of "normal" blood tests, we finally saw Dr. Beer. We followed his plan, and the next try resulted in our now 17 month old little girl. We have a little boy on the way in one more month, again thanks to Dr. Beer. A friend of mine had a little boy without issue. Then, when trying to get pregnant again, she had 5 IVF failures before going to see Dr. Beer. She did his tests, followed his plan, and the next try was pregnant with her little girl. If you, your friends, or your loved ones are fighting infertility and/or miscarriages, do yourself (or them) a huge favor and start with this book unless you want to go straight to his practice (now taken over by Dr. Stricker but still great). It doesn't have to be so hard! We are forever indebted to Dr. Beer!!!
Loss after Loss for a "Real reason".
Through being a real patient of Dr. Alan E. Beer, I have learned to take control over my own medical needs and to not accept unexplained infertility and multiple miscarriages on just bad luck. In reading this book you will see how Dr. Beer had devoted his whole life to helping women like ourselves. He gives you rational explanations and lays out the treatment plan for you. He has helped thousands upon thousands of patients who previously had been given no hope, to receive the precious gift of Parenthood. If you know of a friend, sister or co-worker going through such pain and sorrow; this book is for her. This book has many real stories from real people as myself. Please help educate your special friend and or doctor, so others will not have to face such sorrow again. This book has the diagnosis, treatment and the resources needed to begin. It's a must have.
