Customer Reviews

Just what I've been looking for!5
I'm a long time fan of Mothering magazine, and a devotee of attachment parenting and natural living. I was so frustrated in my first pregnancy, trying to find a book that approached eating during pregnancy from this viewpoint. Now at last, as I prepare to enter my second pregnancy, the book I wanted is here!

Robin Lim talks briefly about nutrition in the early sections. Brief is ok with me, and most of the mommas I know who would like this book would be fine with that as we tend to already be pretty nutrition-savvy.

The heart of the book is the recipes. We've only tried a few so far, but we've enjoyed them! The Caffeine-Free Chai has become a favorite of my 5 year old, and we made the Raw Chocolate Pie for a recent potluck & everyone raved over it! Can't wait to try more recipes!

One small problem with the book - it seems to have a small marketing problem, the cover of the book is such that at first glance it appears to be just another mainstream 'what to eat while pregnant' book. It's NOT - it's very much geared towards us 'hippie momma' types! I almost didn't pick the book up when I first saw it because it looked so standard & I knew I was looking for something different. I'm very glad that I did pick it up, but it may have trouble reaching the intended audience for that reason.

Great book for Moms looking for healthy recipes5
I received this book as a gift, and was pleasantly surprised by the content. I was assuming that it would be another mainstream recipe book (as another reviewer noted, there is nothing on the cover to let you know it is full of healthy "hippie" recipes). However, there are 30 or so pages of good nutritional advice and then scores of great "alternative" recipes, covering breakfast, snacks, drinks, soups, entrees, breads, and desserts.

Please note that if you don't like whole grains or 'whole food' ingredients or 'weird' vegetables then you won't like this book. Also, you will need to be able to get to a health food store for many ingredients... but if all of that is right up your alley, they you'll love this book.

Great Cookbook for anyone wanting to eat healthy (pregnant or not)5
This cookbook is full of gems! I love the focus on organic, whole foods. As a nutrition counselor with a focus on the healing tradition of Ayurveda, I think this cookbook is nourishing, nurturing and useful for everyone, but especially those expecting. I've given out several of the recipes to clients, friends and family. Robin Lim is a midwife with many years of working with women's health and her wisdom is evident. Highly recommended for pregnant ladies as well as people with an inclination towards healthy cooking and earth mother tendencies.
