From the Actor
JB Berns, the creator of The Urban Rebounding Program, has taken his many years as a fitness expert and his passion for life and created an exercise that doesn't feel like exercise at all. "It's a fun way to work out and it is much easier on your body than most other exercises," says JB. Do you remember what exercise was like when you were a child? Hard to remember isn't it? That's because you didn't think of it as exercise. JB Berns has taken that feeling and made it the philosophy behind the Urban Rebounding workout. This unique exercise program works with gravity and not against it, toning and strengthening the body in the process. Urban Rebounding is a kid's exercise for adults of all ages!

• Intermediate - Intermediate urban rebounding workout is a 45 minute workout that combines the basic core postures with intermediate hi-low moves and sports specific exercises
• Abdominal - Abdominal bound is an intense abdominal workout done entirely on the Urban Rebounder. The soft surface of the Urban Rebounder makes Abdominal Bound a whole lotta fun!

Rebounding is Fun
I just got this in the mail today. I've had a mini-trampoline for many years and have always loved messing around on it, but I'm the type of person who benefits from instruction. I am glad to see these workouts.
They tell you to use their Urban Rebounder, but my no-name model from Sears works fine. I don't know if I could add the stability bar on to it, but I don't think I'll need to use that.
I started at the beginning and did the first workout: First-Timers. It was so difficult I couldn't believe it. They slowed everything down so much that it was no fun and I was completely out of breath. I had to take jogging breaks to catch my breath. However, the First-Timers workout only needs to be gone through one time, if that. I think you can learn all the basics from the second workout: The Basic.
The Basic workout was really fun and up to tempo (unlike the First-Timers). It was exactly what I was hoping for: a good workout on the mini-tramp. It included a warm up, cardio section, jogging/sprinting section, cool down, and abs workout (which I thought was pretty tough). The moves were all basic but the warm up and cool down had some variety not included in the cardio section.
This disc includes 6 workouts, not four. They are: First-Timers, Basic Program, Intermediate, Advanced, Oldies But Goodies (for Seniors), and Abdominal Bound.
I haven't tried the other four yet, but the other reviewer covered the Advanced program and the fundamental outline of all the programs. I did look at the workout for seniors. The music for it is also very slow so I don't know if it will be a fun workout. It has a different instructor (JoJo) who is very interesting.
The main instructor, JB Berns, puts me in mind of the martial arts instructor from Napoleon Dynamite, but he's not that bad. He's actually kind of funny. He does take the name of the Lord in vain twice in First-Timers and once in Basic. I hope that will not continue into the other programs. You'd think someone would have told him . . . (unless they didn't want their face smashed?)
He mentions checking your heart rate one time, but gave no time to do so. I'm glad he mentioned it because I was so focused on the moves that I didn't realize how elevated my heart rate was. After that, I had to modify the moves myself to keep my heart rate down. They had five people on camera; you'd think one of them could have demonstrated some modifications.
Sometimes he gives good instructions on form, but other times none. He says, "use good form," but doesn't explicate. If you are a beginner you will need to learn about form from other fitness instructors (Karen Voight being the best I know of).
The demonstrators are all wearing gym shoes, so I wore mine. I tried the cool down barefoot because my feet were hot, but I think it's better to wear shoes for the workout.
I'd have to say that maybe this DVD only deserves three stars because of its weaknesses, but I gave it four because it's unique (are there any other rebounder DVDs out there?) and because it's a good value. You get six workouts on one disc.
There are other compilations too, with different instructors, including ballet, dance, pilates (core), African, Latin, kick, boxing, hip hop, hi-lo, and stretching. I'm looking forward to trying some of those.
A great beginning Rebounder DVD
I got this DVD when I first got the Urban Rebounder. Since I had nothing else to compare it to, I went with it. You MUST start at the beginning if you've never done this workout before. Even though the choreography is very basic, there's still lots of safety tips and basic moves that must be learned. I'm pleased to say after just one month of using my rebounder I was using the advanced routine. Each routine ends with strenth and ab work which I was not impressed with. However, the cardio portion is well worth the money. After three months of the advanced routine, I got bored! Luckily, there are more compilations. Even though I liked compilation 3 better, I'm glad I started with #1 simply for the more complete instruction.
Yay for Urban Rebounding!
I use the urban rebounder every day! The first compliation is not my favorite. However, it does deliever the basic essentials to learning how the rebounder works.
First timers is a little rough until you learn what is going on. It moves very slow so be careful not to take the work out as serious as JB does. Move slow and just learn the correct postures. I'm a fast learner so I moved on to the Begginner work out on the second week of trying it out.
The basic bound is pretty good. It really gets you into it. I had alot of fun learning how to do everything right. not much else to say really, it's just a very basic workout.
Intermediate is my favorite! The music is awsome! I really love it and it gets me into the work out. If your exersice doesn't have good music it gets hard to want to keep going. JB did a great job on this video. I saw alot of results within a month of doing this work out.
I haven't moved on to the Advanced video yet, but I did watch it and it looks just as challenging and fun as the rest.
My 50 year old mother loves the oldies but goodies for those senior bounders out there. It's fun, its got great music, and it keeps her going.
I don't do the abdominal bound very often because I do other workouts like pilaties that work my abs. However, I have used it everyonce in a while just to keep my life interesting. It is extremely challenging yet JB still keeps you entertained.Overall, this is a great set for anyone who wants a fun, challenging, bouncy work out. :D!
