Amazon.com Review
Similar to grill baskets, this 12-inch perforated skillet cooks small food items such as mushrooms and shrimp and keeps them from slipping through the barbecue grate. The advantage of a skillet is that it can be shaken and lifted with just one hand. Moreover, the 10-inch wood-and-steel handle pivots up and folds inside the skillet, resulting in a compact unit that’s great for storage and camping trips. When extended, the handle locks into position for secure use.
Air holes along the sides and bottom of the skillet allow maximum heat flow for stir frying, while the nonstick finish keeps delicate foods from sticking and scorching. The skillet is dishwasher-safe. --Ann Bieri
Customer Reviews
Nice, but handle can be difficult to fold for storage at times
I bought this after owning a similar item. The only problem I've had is that sometimes I have difficulty folding up the handle for storage. Have to use a lot of strength. My other one, a different brand, does not have this problem.
Can't beat the price
It's a non-stick 9" skillet (the flat bottom is a little more than 9" in diameter) on a folding handle. The handle does not flop out of its latch when deployed. Good thickness of metal pan (looks like 20 ga., or about 1 mm thick), plenty of holes for heat circulation. Holes are 5/16" (8mm) dia., spaced 1/2" (12mm) center to center in a square grid. I use it for grilling some veggies alongside the steaks or chicken. Can't beat the price.
You get what you pay for
Cooked bacon-wrapped scallops on the outdoor grill to break this thing in (after an initial hand washing, of course). Sprayed it liberally with olive oil cooking spray, then put the scallops on and sprinkled on some spice and more olive oil. It did a great job. Rinsed and wiped it briefly and then put it in the dishwasher. It came out with a couple of areas where the non-stick coating is already pitting after just the one use. I don't expect this to be around for very long.
