A pretty book but confusing and not the best out there3
This book is is well designed, has nice typography and looks handsome on a book shelf. Some of the illustrations presented are quite lovely. That said, I have some problems with it. The most important is that is lacks a consistent voice. There are many illustrations done by different illustrators who use disparate proportions, rendering and overall technique. While a case could be made that this illuminates the diversity of fashion drawing/ illustration as a teaching tool it's confusing. I attend both FIT and Parsons and I will tell you that it is not highly regarded at either school. I mention this purely because it's a very expensive book and many people looking to buy this book will be students with limited income who, armed with this information may be able to eat for another week, versus buying a book that isn't the best for them. I would highly recommend buying either Bina Abling's Fashion Sketchbook or Steven Stipleman's Illustrating Fashion if the goal is to improve sketching or learn sketching. If the goal is to view various illustrators' work, my recommendation would be the WWD retrospective (1960 - 1990) which showcases the illustration department's work and is truly inspiring.

A Future Fashion Designer Must Have5
I am a high school student currently taking Fashion Designing Classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, which is where I want to go to college. My professor told me about 9 Heads and after working with it for about 5 months now, she noticed dramatic (good) changes in my drawing. I strongly suggest this book for anyone who is considering fashion designing because it has everything and beyond in it- figures, collars, necklines, skirts, pants, sleeves, faces- EVERYTHING!

great fashion illustration book5
9 heads starts as a very professional teaching book with all the details needed for a design student who wants to learn more about fashion illustration. towards the end of the beautiful designed book itself comes the big plus: the examples of some of the finest and famous fashion designers worldwide, like the great christian lacroix or the new star bernhard willhelm. both represented with their fashion and their truly originally illustrations. the book is a great guide to get as good as them. not only is every way you can draw/see an eye, a hand, the body, the draping of the material, the light on clothes and many more important and helpful details presented - there are also fascinating interviews to be found.
