Jacobean Embroidery5
This book is well laid out-there are 24 color plates illustrating the original needlework from this era. 14th century Great Britan was Wm. Sheakspeares' day, and oriental designs were lush revelations. This pattern is a tree of life motif illustrated in a black and white plate in the beginning of the book with a brief historical note.
Each page holds one transfer, with sample and test patterns to work with to determine the right amount of heat, time and pressure if your unaccustomed to this contrivence. It would be a beautiful, irreplaceble and priceless work of art to complete.

Jacobean Iron-on Transfer Patterns5
Linda Ormesson presents a wonderful opportunity to the reader to use 24 iron-on image plates to re-create her own beautiful Jacobean needlework. The inside front cover has four color detail images of the plates and the back has a fold out piece that shows 15 others. The front and back covers round out the total number of 24 plates.

The author provides instructions to iron the transfers to fabric and also a disclaimer stating that since most transfers are to be used more than once the ink will not readily wash out of the fabric and to cover all lines with stitches.

Her stitch instructions are written to the more moderate to advanced stitcher because no how-to instruction is offered.

This is a fabulous booklet to own; the designs are from authentic 17th wall hangings and not from one particular work. The references of actualy work alone is worth owning this booklet.

Take the Guesswork Out5
Planning a piece of embroidery can be time-intensive and challenging (not that there's anything wrong with that), and with transfers you can skip to the "good" bit of actually producing something beautiful. This book, while a bit on the slim side, has great line-drawings of traditional Jacobean iconography, and some instruction for filling and outlining your design. Also included are photos of actual motifs on a seventeenth century set of hangings. Choose another book for more detailed info on fill and outline stitches for more authenticity, but other than that, for all practical purposes this book has what one needs - ready-made designs, palette suggestions thru the photos, and useful stitches.
