Product Description

Developed in Japan in the early 1990s, metal clay represents a dramatic development in the handling of precious metals for jewelrymaking. Metal clay consists of microscopic particles of silver or gold suspended in a pliable organic binder that can be worked with the hands and simple household tools, eliminating the need for difficult metalworking processes such as soldering, hammering, and cutting. When metal clay is fired, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse into pure (99.9 percent) metal. The Art of Metal Clay is a comprehensive introduction to the medium designed specifically for crafters and jewelrymakers, detailing the essentials of working, firing, and finishing metal clay to create beautiful jewelry and decorative objects. Artist and instructor Sherri Haab demonstrates metal clay's remarkable versatility, showing how it can be textured, molded, carved, and sculpted to create gorgeous beads, bracelets, pendants, earrings, rings, and other jewelry settings, plus boxes and vessels. She also reveals how to combine metal clay with polymer clay, glass, and epoxy resin to create unique mixed-media pieces. An essential resource for anyone who wants the latest information on this up-and-coming crafts medium!

Great book to learn from5
I have recently been interested in polymer clay and when I found out that there was Metal Clay I was very excited. In hopes to find out more, I recently ordered Sherri Haab book as well as Precious Metal Clay in Mixed Media, by Mary Ann Devos. Sherri's book is a much better book for me as a beginner. I'm more of a visual learner and I do better with picture steps, which this book has. Very detailed written and pictured steps that help guide me through the projects. It includes creative uses of tools that can easily be found around the house or at a local thift store. She also shows detailed ideas of how to mix different mediums together. I feel like my projects will have more of a success rate do to this book.

This book covers everything5
Sherri has produced an excellent book that will appeal to all levels of Silver Clay users. Not limiting to one brand, I found that useful with the firing charts etc. She covers carving, setting stones, textures, rings, boxes and beads beautifully together with working with molds. I did like her taste of using other media with your PMC, i.e. Resin, Polymer, Glass together with using Gold Clay. Excellent descriptive instructions, great photos of the how to steps and completed piece. I have three Silver Clay books I recommend to my students, this is one of them ( the other two: CeCe Wire and Tim McCreight's). Well worth buying.

A winner!!5
Being a PMC afficionado and owning, I think, every (!) book on it, this was STILL a very welcome addition, and rates among my favorites. The projects are VERY inspiring, and I made up a version of one within the first two weeks of owning it. Clearly written as well. You won't be disappointed!
