Editorial Reviews

Review
"Grammar is not taught as an end in itself, but rather as a function of communication. . . .As a result, students begin using the language immediately."

"The way grammar is handled is one of the innovative and outstanding features of Tu diras!"

"The vocabulary is basic, yet pertinent to students’ everyday lives. It is well-presented and not ’over the top’! There are just enough words in each chapter for students to learn, yet it does not inundate them with so much vocabulary that it leads to ’overkill’, thus hindering their learning as well as their motivation to learn."

"Systematic recycling [of structures and vocabulary] is a term I hadn’t considered much previously, but as I peruse the chapters, I am now a ’believer’."

"[The cultural focus] is authentic with examples of realia and authentic readings. The theme is woven throughout the entire chapter, which reinforces the concept to the student that language and culture cannot be separated."

Terrible book!!1
It must be the worst beginning Spanish language book out there. Not well organized, bombards students with complex grammar constructions and useless vocabulary. This textbook is a true nightmare to work with, to say the least. The workbook and audio that accompany the textbook are ridiculously unrelated. In turn, discouraging and confusing students. Tú dirás means 'you will say'...Indeed, I will say,-- Terrible textbook!

It did the job3
Just finished reading this textbook cover-to-cover, as it was our assigned text for first year Spanish at the local community college. As with most textbooks, the publisher comes out with a "new edition" every 20 minutes or so, so the bookstores get to sell you a new one for $100+ and the prior edition becomes worthless. I have both the 3rd and 4th editions and find the difference between the two insignificant. One could probably learn Spanish just as well from a text published 20 years ago, but then Heinle wouldn't be in business would it? As for the book I can say that it did its job, although it has problems. Most of the exercises are geared towards more advanced students-thinking a first year student will be able to do them is fantasy. More approriate drills would be a huge improvement. The online testing environment ('Quia') also has its share of fantasy exercises. Both the book and the Quia have a fair number of errors-additional time copy editing and testing would be time well spent. As for all the included multimedia content-who has time for it? Anyway, if I want multimedia, I'd rather watch Los pies mágicos de Franny on Vme!

Spanish Textbook5
My text book for spanish class, I am extremly happy with this product and the seller. The book is in great shape with all the audio cds, very little markings in the book. And the best part is, it was only $5.00
